First off, I agree 100% with Dynoflash and CH4MAN. Take it or leave it, the Evo is a form follows function car. Mitsu didn't really worry about styling, but engineered a no-compromise-dominate-in-any-weather-and-any-road-conditions car.

And I really can't believe that they griped about the SCHEDULED MAINTENANCE! This came as a surprise??? A lot of the comments on the 40K longterm test results were plain laughable. My Mitsu dealer actually went out of their way to tell me up front about the "expensive" maintenance schedule of the Evo (including tire wear, brakes, etc.). And when I compare my Mitsu dealer's labor rate of $80/hr to the $120/hr the local Audi dealer wants, expensive indeed. ... and let's not even start comparing maintenance costs of cars that play in the same league as the Evo. Yes, the Evo is not a cheap car to maintain, and yes it can be annoying (read: poor fit and finish inherited from the Lancer), and yes, it does tend to break when you beat on it ... but should any of this come as a surprise? I think not.

As a C&D subscriber ... I was very disappointed.
As an Evo owner ... I'm pissed.

[QUOTE=shiv@vishnu]Guys,
Let's not get all bothered about the C&D story. Their car had problems. They stated the facts. Unfortunately, I don't believe they came to the right conclusions regarding "limp home" mode, knock problems, etc,. But they are entitled to make their editorial conclusions based upon the information they gathered from whoever they gathered it from. Some of our competitors always ***** and moan about the amount of editorial we get from all the different mags, tv shows, etc,. But what they dont realize is that everytime we put our products on the line we take these risks. The risk that we dont get a fair review on our parts. The risks that our parts done perform as they should in that particular application. The risk that **** happens.

Outside of independant magazine testing scrutiny, it is easy to hide your weaknesses, shortcomings, etc and pose as a model of unyielding perfection. LIkewise, it's easy to disregards the writings of a not-so-affectionate editor as the rantings of a lunatic. Neither response is appropriate or warranted. You learn from this stuff and try to make the next offering even better.

And........this thread should END with Shiv's gracious and astute observations concerning how things ARE, not pie in the sky laments and expectations concerning what we feel everyone should feel about our cars.
