Recall Question and concern

Hey all,

I just got a phone call from the dealership that I bought my 03 evo from (Spitzer in Sheffield, Ohio) and they called to tell me there was a recall. So I ask which recall they are referring to because I've had the fan module replaced, and received my air bag sticker too. The guy (Travis) then informs me it's for a VIN correction. And I'm like ok....well I haven't gotten any written notification, nor have I read about anything like that. He tells me he would like me to schedule an apt. to get this taken care of. So I tell him I'll call him back when I have the time. Obviously, I think there is something amiss here, and I am going to call another local Mitsu dealership to see if there is any truth to this "recall". I didn't ask about specifics when he called because I was kind of busy, but the more I think about it, the more it concerns me. I've never heard of a VIN correction. My other thought is maybe they want to inspect the car for mods? Or perhaps there is something with my particular vehicle? Sorry about the length of this post, but if anyone has any thoughts, or has had a similar situation please advise. Also, I will keep you aprised as I find out more info. Thanks,

Mike

That's odd. I've never heard of anything like that. If/when you know if this is legit and what is going on, please, let the rest of us know!!!

Compare the VIN on your dash to the one under your hood or on your door panel and make sure they match. If they do, don't go in.

Well, I called the dealership (spitzer) today and all I got was a computer voice saying to leave a message, and the'll get back to me. I found it strange a person wasn't answering the phone. I tried calling 4 different times throughout the day, same thing. I did call Medina Mitsubishi, and told the service manager the situation, he double checked and confirmed there are no recalls pending on my car, and he has never heard of a VIN correction recall..ever. I will continue to try and contact the original dealership to follow up, and keep you posted. Thanks for listening and for your comments.

Try not to be too paranoid man. There is a recall on the manufacturer label that goes into your door jamb. The reason they need your VIN is to, contrary to your paranoia about mods, replace the label because the label has been printed improperly and it contains the VIN of the car it's stuck to. They get your VIN and fax it to MM so they can send a corrected label with the correct VIN on it. Try to relax we are not out to get you.

Isn't there a recall about having the incorrect information as far a GVWR (gross vehicle weight rating)? This would be on the door jam tag.
Mine's an 03 and a CarFax showed an open recall.
That was the only info I could find out.

Mike, call MMNA directly and ask them about it. # is in your owner's manual.

Thanks for the responses. I know about the weight sticker replacement. But that's not what I was informed the recall was for.

Lancerdealer--first of all I'm not paranoid, I'm cautious. Second, I have owned alot of vehicles, and have NEVER had a dealership call me directly about a recall, especially when I didn't receive paperwork on it.

I'll keep you advised.

Webguy330i is right, Call MMNA ASAP. Did you buy it new or used?

I bought the car new from Spiter Mitsu, but have had all recall work to date, done by Medina Mitsu. I will call MM and see what they say.
