EVO vs STI in Reliability, Modding, Plain out which car?

Huh? Oh I forgot that the EVO has had no problems with transfer cases, clutches, syncros, etc. Subaru is still rated number #1 for reliability and I'll take that over cheerleaders who say I know a guy who knows a guy who has an STI that had clutch issues LOL. The fact is, both these cars have tranny issues and the EVO is certainly not better in that respect.

So, please quit bringing that up as it has not too much to do with your particular car.
And im not in any way bashing the STi, but its a performance car is just that, and they all have problems.
What is it, like 1 out of every 10 or their cars comes back for work
And I'm not so sure that the WRX/STi bring their numbers down as both of those received the best rating on reliability.

I would say the wrx is more like 1 in every 3 come back for some sort of work. The performance cars in the line are the reason that number is 1 in 10, not 1 in 20.

It is MORE likely that any given car within a certain line will be more reliable when the manufactuer is noted for overall reliability.
Certainly a higher tuned sports car would be more prone to trouble as is the nature of the beast. However, it speaks to the manufacturers overall ability to try and keep that to a minimum.
Mitsubishi makes decent products. I've owned 2 of their "sport" models, a 1990 turbo Eclipse, and the good looking but lackluster 2000 Eclipse GT.
Mits is KNOWN for drivetrain troubles, still. AWD grip and high power will take advantage of the weakest link in the drivetrain. That goes for Mits and Suby.
Still, overall Subaru is known as building sturdier and more reliable vehicles over the years. Disagree all you like, but you would simply be denying the truth born by statistical data.
That doesn't make the STi faster nor does it mean every EVO will have extensive problems. It simply, quite simply, means that if you are betting on which car will last longer and give more trouble free performance over the years, smart money says to go with Subaru.
I prefer the EVO anyway.
Owner knowledge and willingness to keep up with maintenance goes a long way to ensuring less trouble. These cars are NOT for everyone.T
I agree 100% with both of you. All im saying it that inside of subaru, we are talking about their car with the MOST problems of all the cars in their lineup. And those are the guys that keep bragging on that. It doesn't really matter to me that a companies station wagon never has any problems when the car i want still does. See what im saying?
Now, going along the same lines, i think mitsubishi builds crappy quality cars, and there isn't one other mitsu i would consider other than my evo. I would buy a legacy from subaru before i would even consider buying a galant or whatever compares in mitsu's lineup.
I bought the evo for its performance abilities and aftermarket support, not for any other reason really. The engine is tough, and thats really what matters in this car. And if you can drive, you won't bust the hell out of your transfer case, if you can't, you will bust it all to bits. This is talking about dragging the car though, of course, not really what the car was built for. It shines on the racetrack, and i don't think you have to worry about breaking anything there.

gsujeff55: You can't compare the regular WRX tranny to the STi 6 speed tranny (not the STi RA tranny). They are simply worlds apart, the WRX tranny is known to be weak but the STi tranny is known to be bulletproof .... I could go into a lot more details about both trannys and also about the engines, but I'm too lazy to type all the details. Just as a hint to those who keep touting the 4G63 realiability, remember crank walk?
I have had my car for 15K miles stock clutch (BPU. mods) To cook it you must really abuse the car. Dumping the clutch at 5-6K is going to cook alot of them out there if you do it enough. Alot of people bring up issues about the clutch and claim they do not abuse it? IMHO I'd rather have the clutch fail then the tranny or diff. Crank walk doesn't haunt these cars as it did in the 2G's so I have been told. But only time will tell. Every car has it's own problems this is the real world nothing is perfect. If you want perfection you must pay big for it.

Both of these cars have their own issues, i would tell anyone looking to buy an 05 of either of these cars to get a STi if there were gonna keep it stock. If you want to get some power out of it without breaking the bank and the motor, get a EVO.
I love both cars, and wish i could have both. One of my good friends has a STi and i love his car, but its just not mod friendly enough for me.
Well I'm planning on spending around 3-4 grand with installs hopefully on my EVO / STI. So with that said, which car do you guys think I should get?
(thats not including clutch, and shiat like that, just performance)

that was on the older generations.
it's not an issue now.

It took years for the engine to get refined but that doesn't mean a manufacturer can't build a solid well-built engine in its first attempt.
