Changed my Oil (first time) i got a question

OK so i got some oil. And a filter. And my 17mm wrench.

i get to work.......

the filter i have does not seem to match up with the one i took off.....

Seems to be longer and a tad more skinny. Fit up fine and tightened fine.
The filter is a Prolator.... got it at walmart =/ looked in the book and all and to the best of my knowledge it is the right part. Should i be concerned?

Thanks
ryan

I would probably go with a Mitsu OEM filter or a K&N but that's just me. Should be ok though, my K&N filter didn't look anything like the small OEM filter that was there.

Come on man you went to wal~mart for you filter. I know your trying to save money. Take your *** the Autozone or Kregan. I've seen the studies. usually the best filter is the one Mitsubishi Makes. And no matter how much everyone will disagree with me, Moblie 1 oil sucks ***. The best oils are Redline, Amsoil, and 76 pure synthetic.

Don't take it the wrong way. But that may be the reason your filter "Don't fit right". Sorry I didn't mean to insult you. But us Californians have a thing against Wal~Mart. No pun intended. What I'm saying is, if your not sure next time get it from the people who know, or at lease can find out for you.

And no It's not just a damn filter. I've seen two Evo come into our service drive where they changed the oil themselves. One used the wrong size filter, Which lead to a slow leaked. That combined with the turbo burning up all his oil. 1000 miles later and tosted motor.

The other used a filter that restricted oil flow causing damage to his turbo.

As for the wipers. Mitsubishi wiper suck, So good job on the wipers

I did my first oil change last month (05 EVO) and the oem filter pn. configuration had been changed. So it's times like that, that make me glad that I use OEM filters only.

Don't buy hard car parts from Wal Mart. They just don't carry the quality brands. I think it's ok to buy liquids there (oil, washer fluid, etc). Use the OEM filter or K&N or Mobil 1. Skip on the Fram, Purolator, etc that are designed for the people who don't care about their cars.

I've ran Purolator Pure one filters on my EVO and my DSM for years. They are very good filters and my oil changes have looked pristine ever since I have been using them. Purolator's filters are just physically longer than the OEM unit (at least for the EVO) but the gasket matching and everything else is exact.

BTW...I buy my Mobil One synthetic oil at Walmart too. Who cares where the F you get it from as long as its the right product.

i get all my oil and filters from walmart... just because its walmart doesn't mean that the brands or the things inside the box are cheaper. i have used fram oil filters from walmart since i bought my car, and walmart carries royal purple also which is all that goes into my engine. dont bang on that guy or walmart just because you want to pay 15 dollars for a k & n filter for 3000 miles and i pay 4 for a fram filter that is probably just as good or just as protective. besides if you search im sure you will find a post that says something like using extended guard filters may not necessarily be the best for our cars because the oil does not flow as easily as it would with a regular filter.

I'd stick with OEM. How did you confirm that oil filter is for an EVO? Everytime I look in their book or computer, they never have anything for an EVO or 4G63.

Both cars are listed in their hard copy book that is at my local Advanced Auto. They make regular and Pure One filters for both EVOs and DSMs. (The EVO Pure One filter is PL14610).

Fram oil filters are not made for Turbo cars. And if you read my second post, I said that extended guard filter are just as bad. The best filter you can buy is the one that was dezigned for the evo (OEM). Turbo car burn an excessive amount of oil. Cheaper filters will not do the job. To me it sounds like you don't care about your car. Your the type of person thats says all gas is the same. And don't let me get started on Wal~Mart. It's considered the corperate money sucker. Peoviding low income jobs and putting small business out of business. With there cheaper labor, overhead, and prices.
