My brother will be turning 16, well, on the 16th of this month, and I don't know if he should be driving my Evolution as his first car. As a reference, I have some background in racing and have spent countless weekends at AutoX, whereas he doesn't/hasn't. If it matters the Evo wasn't my first car and I am glad it wasn't . Also, if it helps he is driving my dad's Lexus LS400 around on his permit but I don't really know how good of a driver he is because I haven't really been in the car when he's driving.

I'm slightly worried about him driving it, but at the same time I really want to teach him the proper way to treat an Evo. If I try to teach him the proper way to drive a manual car (god help my clutch ) and take him to some AutoX's do you think it will help? I might be on a time constraint as it is because I have lots of things to do (like take the Evo to some driving schools and track days and even more AutoX's ) I'm just not sure if he is ready for this kind of machine. What you guys think?

EDIT (Now correctly placed here): I forgot something, one reason I was considering my brother driving it was so my dad doesn't have to take it to work and rack up the miles. Also, I have no idea where I would be able to get a parking space at anyways . The idea of being a freshman again is really weird.

Ummm, yeahhh (Lumberg - "Office Space") Remove the ECU from behind the glove box. Problem solved. You can make it a conversation piece at parties

Just be ready to work hard, keep focused and keep going. It is a grind, but it is worth it. The job prospects depend on your field and what is going on with the economy when you graduate. You should do ok as long as you don’t go into one of the oversaturated fields. If you want big bucks go into ChemE or figure out something that gets you work with the oil companies. If you want to work on cars then ME or AAE is the way to go. Same with aviation. I love working with planes so I’m happy whit what my degree got me.

I was in Cary until I moved into an off campus house. The dorms are ok. I was never impressed with the frat scene at Purdue. Going into engineering means you need to be in an environment where you can focus on what you are doing. Get involved in clubs and stuff, that will help you when you interview and you will have fun. Meet people. My Purdue friends are still some of my best friends. All of my groomsmen where friends from Purdue.

Best wishes,

I got the same problem with you man. College in the fall and i dont know what to do! I got into Purdue as well and they dont allow freshman to have cars. So i'm in the same situation. Michigan State, Purdue, Indiana, UNLV, idk. For all of you that have already gone through college and survived i commend you.

Oh, lemme explain. Its definately not a new LS400, its like a 93 or something. Business isn't going as good as usual so we couldn't afford to get another car (Evo is expensive as it is!!!). Even if we did I dunno where we would put it as one car already stays out in the driveway while 2 are in the garage. And he is definately not gonna drive the minivan (actually nice inside tho haha)

Don't let him drive your evo as his first car. That's not a good idea. Think about it, a pilot doesn't start out flying F14's. You gotta work your way up.

Man I am 20 and have barely started college. I went to BAMA and didnt do so well so i went to a community college and got about 24 credits so now I'm going back to bama. And I will have an Evo before I go to school there but ill probably be living in a house so I can keep a close eye on my car at all times.

a teenager with ANY car is asking for trouble, let alone a car with some performance

everybody already has said what i wanted to say....he might be responsible and he might listen to your lectures of how to drive it, but i guarantee you once he gives a ride to a friend or two, he will at least once want to try to open her up...that's not necessarily a bad thing, but when you're 16 you don't have the experience to react and handle circumstances that are thrown quickly at you while driving

i mean, when i was that age, i was as responsible as they came, and even i had urges to test out my '97 galant!! it's human nature to test things out!! my 2nd car was an '01 GT which was a big jump, and i'm currently in an '04 z06...it was a huge jump, but a progression nonetheless...i'm only 23 but i still sometimes do things i shouldn't on the road, for the shear adrenaline

chain your brother up to a very solid object, take your ecu, and your keys, and threaten to send ninja assassins after anyone who breathes on the car wrong
