Unless your upping the boost. Stock is fine. Otherwise i strongly reccomend the JDM MR BPV.

The HKS SSQV seems to be a nice BOV, I see some Evo's around here have that. Sounds awesome too!

SSQV is a great valve... although many have had problems with it... then again... others have had zero problems...

i have the greddy type RS... really nice valve.. holds boost fine... haven't had any problems VTA...

best valve i've seen is the greddy type S though... it has has secondary hose on it that 'makes' the valve open when it's suppose to open... no surge

I would go with the MR BOV. I used the HKS SSQV and I had idling problems. Didn't seem to give any more power but sounded good. If you go with HKS you would probably need to get the HKS electronic idle stablizer to get perfect idling. I am currently using the MR BOV with no probelms at all.

You don't need to spend the extra money on an HKS or greddy unless you REALLY want that VTA whistle. Just get the MR and recirc and avoid the headaches and its still JDM so you can still brag about it if you want....

Keep it stock unless you know it is leaking or you are upping your boost.

I own the greddy type S, make sure to set it right though, by this i mean open it take the smaller inside spring out and adjust the stiffness of your type-S accordingly. If you decide to get a type-S pm me and i'll give you the directions for setting it up.

^^ yeah what alias said so make sure you have a boost gauge. and changing the bov wont add power unless it is leaking which will cause a drop in power because it cant hold boost

Just a curious question... since I don't currently own an Evo yet. Does the stock BOV still whistle, and make the typical "BOV sound"?

Not really....or at least at a very minimum noise level. Unless you have an open air element, you will barely hear it, which is ok with me since I think it is just rice to get a bov for the noise.
