Talking Which car to get before a car like an Evo/STI??

My friend is 20, hes actually going to be getting an STI, but I like the people on here oh so much more then the STI forums. So I would like to ask you guys, he's looking to buy an old used car to learn to drive stick better on, but he doesnt want a little whimp like an old civic or something he wants something with SOME power so he can actually get a feel of having a stiffer clutch and a harder to drive car.
He is looking to spend around 6k, he isnt looking for anything nice at all he doesnt care if it has 180,000 miles on it, just aslong as it runs and has a pretty powerful engine.
I've heard about like the 1988-1990 Audi S4, but havent been able to find anything. I was telling him to look at like old v8 mustangs, 3000gt non vr4's ( vr4s too expensive), and also like 240sx's...

Am I leading him in the wrong direction or am I doing any good??

If you guys could recommend some cars, and if possible the year(s) that he should look for?

GVR4s run around 5k, even less sometimes. Maybe he should try a Celica Alltrac, that should be under 6k as well.

i personally think any 'ol beater will do in terms of getting ur friend to learn the basics of a manual tranny. the evo, IMO, is pretty easy to drive stick in....with easy clutch take up. try learning on a BMW Z3 when u just turn 16...that was fun! if he only plans to buy this car in preparation of learning stick well enough so that he doesn't harm wutever he plans on buying (STi/EVO), then he should just buy something really cheap. no need to get a fast, expensive car to learn on.

I say look for an 98/99 2.5rs. Get used of the AWD. You can find one with high miles for 6K.

Are all Talons turbocharged? From what I can find on autotrader, only some of them say turbo

Why doesn't he just forget about buying something else? I drove only a handful of my freinds' cars the week before I bought my Evo and within another week of owning it I was perfect. He just needs confidence. He'll get used to the stiff clutch really quick too.

I second that emotion... thats a great choice for a good, powerfull car to learn to drive stick on AND get the feel for AWD.

Good call l
