There should be a part 2. "How much have you spent that your significant other doesn't know about?"

$20K+ for your evo? I mean, I love my evo but what are you guys doing besides TBE, ECU flash, cams, gears, fuel pump,TT, SAFC? Maybe another turbo? Add another $4k. That's max $10K. Where is the other 10K going to? Wheels that add little to no WHP? That's max $4000 including tires incl install. We're at $14K. Boy, people are either getting ripped of from the labor or you're building a replica HKS Evo with full carbon fiber

Just forget the ricey intakes, heat shields, titanium shifters/pedals, aftermarket intercooler that add little to no WHP. Most of our stock stuff is sufficient. My god, we must have some trust fund babies on this board. Just my 2 cents......
OK so you got the power adders....but you've totally forgot one of the most important things to making your car TRULY fast.....suspension!!! Heck, you could eaily spend 2-8 grand on a set of coilovers alone! Add in camber plates, tie bars, adjustable control arms, various braces and bars, you're looking at 10-15k in 15 minutes of shopping. Then you gotta stop better, new rotors, pads, shoes, lines, fluids, thats another possible 5-8 grand......do some weight reduction, theres another 2-4 grand.....good rims and tires thats up to 5-6 grand. Then to make that power hit the ground, new clutches, flywheels, LSD's, braces, there's another 5 grand. Lets not forget the rest of the engine mods such as head work, porting, stronger bolts/studs, engine management, pistons, rings, balancing, intercooler, oil cooler, injectors.....and we havent even gotten to appearance lol. So when you think of the total over-all package besides what shaves 1/4 time, you can very spend over 20 grand and not be even halfway into the stuff I listed. And some of the things you discounted, like heat shields and intercoolers, will be worth it when the time comes you are making 500+whp. Damn, you could probably spend near 100k on just mods if you bought everything available for our cars. Oh yeah, none of that includes labor either, juuuuuuust parts

I think some of us may have really well paying jobs or businesses. Not everyone on a board is a young kid working for $10/HR.

true, suspension is important but I think 90% of forum members don't regularly track. Most just drool over WHP numbers....again, my 2 cents

Even if all you want is WHP numbers, it's not too hard to spend $20K in that sort of stuff. Intake, exhaust, upgraded fuel system, cams, camgears, I/C, EMS can easily run $5K just in parts. A turbo upgrade with header plus an intake manifold and you are in the $10K range just in parts. Don't forget a million little things that end up getting replaced during all that work add up to lots of $$. Now you have to have gauges to keep up with all those mods.... That could easily run into the $1K in parts. To handle the power you gotta get a clutch. That's not an option, the clutch will definitely need to be upgraded. Here you can easily spend $2.5K in parts alone.
So far you could have spent by now $13.5K or more just in WHP parts Don't forget, hardly anyone will have all those parts together at once, the parts will end up installed more or less in piece meal fashion. Installation for all those parts can very easily run into the $5K range.... Now we are in the $18.5K range..... Now you can add all the dyno time and multiple tuning sessions..... We have not even began to add all the work and parts needed to really make the thing work.. It's been my experience that these things are fraught with unforeseen problems and diificulties. You don't even notice your wallet bleeding hundreds of dollars at the time over months of tuning, re-tuning, fixing and working on the car. Unless you can do it all by yourself, you can count of spending a lot of money on labor (don't forget the car rental fees while your car is in pieces at various shops).

I think $20K is a very easy number a person can spend on an EVO before the first wheels, tire upgrades or suspension is even considered... Hell, I think my towing fees alone I had to pay dues to Busted Solutions messing with my car amounted to $500 .... True, I might not have spend $20K in my car, but I hate to know just how close I came........

i spent alot but i went wild on my build all motor stroker with every part that could make more power added
my advice is save your money dont piecemeal the install get it all done at once place one time--install cost tuning cost will be less..if you want fast skip the suspension body parts carbon fiber blah all the blingy stuff..build the motor upgrade the drivetrain..20k spent on motor drivetrain all at once you can build a monster

$4400... half of which were on tires and wheels... running between hot dry summers and cold cold snowy winters makes all seasons useless and my bank account useless for that matter as well..

I almoast died when i read the sport compact car magazine article that said the new IX get like 7 whp and 3ftlbs more... they thought that was great lol

$200 for zeitronix display and boost sensor, I had the rest of it from the DSM to install.

I'll probably go in the 1-2k range until it's paid off and no longer a DD
