More importantly, be smooth about it. And find the place where the throttle matches the clutch movement. It's not a stationary position for either one. Sometimes you will need/want to let it out slow and sometimes fast. It all depends. It's more important to be smooth and to learn the relationship between gas and clutch.

 

Shifting a manual gearbox car smoothly, especially a high hp car like an EVO, is all about practice, practice, practice. If the car is jerking when you put it in 2nd gear, you are not giving it enough gas.
