installing an aftermarket stereo on an evo 05...but how????

this may sound stupid to some...but im trying to install my pioneer stereo on my evo. but i got lost on the wirings. i thought it was going to be easy since it does not need a kit for it. but when i took the stock stereo the wires were different. i found out that i need to bypass the amp wire, but how? anybody here installed theyre aftermarket stereo by themselves??? i would i appreciate it if you could show and tell me the steps. My plan is to install my pioneer deck and replace the stock amp with my JL four channel.

thanks in advance!!

Get the wiring harness from any stereo store and it will have all the wires marked so you can just hook up your headunit and go (if it has an internal amp). To use the JL amp would require a lot more work. If you have more questions I replaced the whole system in my 03 including running new wire for all the speakers.

From: BeAvErToN,
thanks.. but im still stump on my stock amplifier that came with my evo. when i went down to a local audio store, they told me that i need to bypass amplifier wires. im like what the hell is that. i thought it was just plug and play. then they told me that it takes 2 hour labor if you know what you are doing. i was thinking to my self with the wire harness and figuring out what the hell a bypass is and just relocate the wires, i dont think it would be that hard. but yeah if you know what im talking about, let me know some info or if you want me to be more specific about the wires being different let me know. thanks

Did you get the enhanced stereo system?

I purchased mine with the stock stereo system and got help installing my headunit.

I watched the guy do it and we didn't need to bypass any amplifier.

To install it I got a wiring harness and we just matched the colors.

Good luck

i didn't get to pull mine apart yet, but, i'm assuming it's the same weird plug that's with the 300w inf sys in the Eclipse??? if so... a company makes an adapter that'll use your RCA outs from an aftermarket deck and convert it to that strange plug so you can use your fader and stock amp... i'll go check it out tom or tues...

if you go get a wiring harness i suggest picking it up at circuit city if you have one local or a similiar place. its a great price and it was a matter of minutes to hook the head unit up when we did mine.

Same here. It was the easiest thing I've ever installed. Take a/c buttons off, take trim piece off, swap radio, put everything back.

If you were thinking about getting XM radio, I have everything you need for a pioneer headunit for sale. PM me if you're interested.

if you have the premium sound system, you can buy an adapter labeled "mitsu inf sound sys 1999-01"... that's if you hook up a deck to the factory amp... which i'm doing... it allows you to plug in the front and rear/or/low pass rca's to feed into that factory wierd plug...

as far as wiring up an aftermarket deck and amp... you can do it like you would on any other car... just run RCA's to the amp from the deck, and power off the battery... now, if you're talking about seeing which wires are for which speaker and it's polarity, you can do one of two things... cut them at the stock amp, then use a 9V battery... when you touch the two correct wires together to one speaker, you'll hear a faint pop from said speaker... other way, is prod each wire while the amp is still hooked up with the radio, fade say, front left, then prod a test light to the wires till you hear a pop, or see it light up... either or.... the popping never damaged my speakers before, but, i make no promises nor be held responsible...

then, as you fig out each speakers wires, wrap the two with masking tape and write to which speakers they go to... and you're on your way...

sorry for the vague steps, but, i don't have my damned socket set to pull out my seat to check out the wires at the amp for you...

hope it helps a lil'...

Metra Harness w/ AMP Integration will do the trick. I also have the Sun, Sound and Leather package and this was the only way to make it work. The harness is easy to use and the amp integration splits into 6 RCA jacks which makes the intall a breeze. PM if you need more answers.
