EVO Weight

The Heaviest Jap Spec evo, the GSR with all the electronic toys and the 6sp weighs, according to Mitsu, 3108. Our car with just a 5sp weighs in at 3263 w/o sunroof. All our required safety crap and emissions crap weigh us down, imagine with the ACD and a 6sp. The stripped down RS with a 5sp weighs only 2910. Think about it, a Z06 Vette weighs 3100. Hope the STI ain't that porky...

Not really. This has been descussed before. The 3108 weight figure for the JDM model is dry weight, or no fluids whereas the USDM weight figure is wet weight with all fluids topped to max capacity. But yes, with the extra gizmos, the weight would be greater.

x litres of engine oil (6?)
x litres of gearbox oil (?)
x litres of coolant
x litres of power steering fluid
x litres of window washer fluid
53 litres of gas

add those up and substract from the US Evo weight.

I suppose that adds up to something like 70kg, ie 150lbs approximately.
what about battery acid, FMIC spray resevoir, rear diff oil, freon oil....? just being ****...ignore me

I saw a picture of a UK spec Evo 8 and it looks like the front and rear bumpers are different. Smaller and look better. I will probably take off the overweight US bumpers and swao in some UK bumpers in place. That should make the car look better as well as reduse the weight drastically.

Have in mind that EVO7 GSR has a 3260 lb/1400 kg according to the R&T and EVO8 GSR is just about 20 lb/10 kg over that (the spec is 1410 kg). The EVO8 RS is 40 lb/20 kg lighter than the EVO7 RS!

all weights found at various sites online...hopefully they are correct.

gas = appx 2 lbs/ liter. at 53 liters....it weighs 106lbs!
(coolant) water= 8.3 lbs/ gal

can't find number for the weights of the oils... :|

I don't see how it matters unless you plan on driving your car around without oil, gas, and coolant.

They're trying to compare to the JDM version, which is weighed w/o any fluids in it.

I don't see how that would reduce weight "drastically" but I would like to see the diference in looks.

Subliminal mode on.

Autoweek says 3300 lbs.ironblock. If would step into the 21st century they wouldn't have to use aluminum fenders.ironblock. I'll bet that hasn't let any mags test the evo in the .25 mile because they are afraid the truth will come out.ironblock.

Subliminal mode off.

needs to pull out their boobies and let an unbiased third party prove the EVO is worth the extra $$$. I understand that the 4g63 is the modern day small block, but a WRX and $500 will put you past the EVO in performance. Don't get me wrong, a WRX can never beat the EVO in style, but some people on this BBS have brand loyalty issues

How do you figure that? The Evo will handle the WRX and outbrake. Did you forgot the Evo has Brembos and is one of the best handling cars available? $500 might get you close to the Evo in hp...but good luck keeping your tranny from breaking
The Evo has a MUCH stronger tranny, and easily tunable for more hp.
Sounds like YOU'RE the one with brand loyalty issues
