Car shakes when A/C button turned on...

Recently I am experiencing the car starting to vibrate hard and even hearing knocks around the engine bay after I turn on the A/C button. Anyone around here had this problem before or know what's causing it? Or perhaps I should just take it to the dealership? Thanks.

uhm... you might fix this by getting a grounding kit... at least it made my ac run better... i wanna say it's normal but knocking isn't ever a good thing.

Yeah...the engine lugs a bit at idle with the A/C on...it's normal...you can try a grounding kit, though...

take it to the dealer, that way if it is making an abnormal noise they can tell you what really going on. the ac will make a clicking noise but all ac systems do, the vibration i would be worried about

This is not normal. Take it to the dealer and have them look at it.

I agree with the majority hard shaking/vibration/knocking around in the engine is bad. But if it is just a little rattle/engine lug mine does the same thing and I have not had a problem with it at all. I would only take it to the dealer if you think it is major.

Might be a bad a/c compressor. Take it to the dealer and they'll probably replace it.

Some lugging is normal...but if he's getting really bad knocking, then that's another thing entirely...

The A/C compressor runs when you use the defogger.

The a/c compressor doesn't run unless the a/c button is turned on. The a/c button tells the PCM to turn the compressor on, so without the PCM request the compressor is not on. If the car vibrates and knocks only when you turn the a/c button on, is safe to say that the two are related.

Thanks for the replies, I am pretty sure this isn't normal because it started doing this just recently. Again, the shaking/vibration and the engine noise doesn't seem to start untill I hit the A/C button on. I will take my car to the dealership and see what they tell me.. and let you all know. Thanks again.
