Problems with compressor surge....need help!
My boost controller was set to run 21.5ish, well two days ago I installed the MR diverter valve, and all was well, car ran pretty much the same, or atleast I thought so. Today on the way to work my buddy asks me how much I'm boosting, because he says he thought he saw it go to 25ish, I floored it, and and was around 22 in 5th gear, which is normal for my car.
On the way home from work, I happened to look down at the boost gauge while in 4th gear, and to my dismay the car was boosting 25psi and would have probably kept going if I hadn't let off.
On top of all of this, I get fluttering non-stop now unless I'm over 5psi. Like 15 in hg and it will flutter when I let off the throttle. I did some searches about MR BOV problems and people with the same problem as I'm having had their valve installed backwards, but I don't believe mine is in there backwards, the little nipple is pointing up.
Obviously I need to turn down the boost (I'm too tired to do it now after 12.5 hour shift), but I don't think this will allieviate my flutter (compressor surge, atleast I think that's what it is, but I'm a newb).
I heard no "knock", and I didn't get any type of fuel cut when the car boosted like that, no CEL. I run 93 octane from good gas stations like Mobil or Hess, maybe that was my saving grace, but I'm definitely turning it down.
My mods are in my sig, help would be extremely appreciated.

Emre
Id turn the boost down and see if it helps. Alot of people have had the same problem with the mr valve, im one of them, and yes it was installed correctly. Try putting the stocker on and see if it rides better and still flutters.

That is not good.....I was hoping that I had it in there backwards. This will be the second time that I've bought a part and it doesn't work with my car. The first being the typhoon intake, but that was just stupidity.
You don't have compressor surge that will hurt anything. I believe that's called internet surge. Just because it's fluttering doesn't mean it's bad. If you're at vacuum and you let off and it flutters, do you think all the massive amounts of air in the intake is going to reverse flow and slam into the compressor blades? No.
Fluttering might result from a stiffer spring in the diverter valve/BOV. It's just an annoyance many people live with in order to have a better seal/ability to hold more boost. Since the MR valve isn't adjustable, it'll probably always be that way.

the car actually stutters though when it flutters like that... It's doing it all the time, and when I first installed the valve it wasn't.....something happened, something changed....
Actually I posted that just to let you know it isn't hurting your turbo. It is possible that it is compressor surge, but everyone screams about it like it is the same thing as compressor surge when the turbo is actually doing work.
Fluttering/bucking at low RPMs is common, like I said. Why do some people have it and others don't with the same BOV? I don't know. If the car was fine after the install of the valve, and now it's not, I suspect that something is wrong. Maybe a hose came loose somewhere. I don't see how the valve was fine for a couple of days, and now it's not, unless the valve has failed.
