Installing stock bov backwards......

I did this to see if it would help w/ my boost taper. On my preivous turbocharged car(VW), you could run them all day long installed correct or backwards. Now, on the EVO, that damn thing flutters like crazy, however my tapering issue seems to be much less dramatic and it appears so far that I have gained a pound of boost at redline. Now, the question is do you guys see anything wrong with running it this way other than the annoying *** sound? Is there anything that could be getting damaged running it this way? I just want to make sure that none of that fluttering sound is compressor surge. Thanks for any help.

This is not a good way to run the stock DV. There have been a few threads on it, do a search. Basically it comes down to the fact that the DV doesn't really open. Putting it in reversed is almost as bad as plugging the hole in your intercooler piping.

So baisically the fluttering is compressor surge instead of bov valve flutter. I did a search....many times, but I keep getting 1000000 useless threads.

Yes, with the BOV installed backwards the only thing causing the valve to open is the engine vaccuum. The vaccuum from the engine is not strong enough to counteract the pressure on the plunger from the spring. Under normal operation, the valve is opened by this vaccuum in combination with the positive pressure in the intercooler piping. When you take away the positive pressure pushing the plunger open, it will not be able to open.

Agreed, I am well aware of how the a bov/dv functions . The difference is spring pressure. On my VW, the DV spring pressure was crap as the car came from the factory only running 10lbs of boost, so the spring pressure was much softer as compared to the EVO's DV which has a much higher spring pressure due to 19lbs of peak boost. Guess I am gonna pony up and get a MR valve because it appears that my stock valve does leak a little bit. I will be flipping her back around tomorrow when I get some light.

I did a leak test on mine and it started leaking at 14 psi. I just replaced it yesterday with a Forge DV. It made a huge difference. The stocker just can't hold the boost.

I had issues w/ forge DV's sticking on my 1.8t. I doubt I will ever go w/ them again. There were numerous threads about it back in the day. I am just gonna hit up an MR DV or first gen. I ran a first gen BOV on my LS swapped and turbocharged civic hatch that I built. Worked PERFECT.

Yeah, it doesn't work at all reversed like the Vag DVs. That fluttering is straight up compressor surge. While installing my new gauge/pod, I found my old Bailey valve that I had in the A4. I might throw it in for fun
