I second that. Alpine head units are great.

I have an Alpine IVA-D900. It is the top of the line DVD player, but last year's model. The only thing changed on the new IVA-D901 is the buttons and lights are blue. I love this unit, and have nothing but great things to say about it. I have never had any head unit besides Alpine. They are very nice.

They're not saying that it's a newbie question but they think it's a FAQ. That's my take.

not enough rms coming out of the eclipse unit compared to my jvc. i think my old eclipse deck was 13-15 rms and my jvc was 20.

i only asked because most head units suck, so i wanted to see what was popular amoung us. man give me a brake

anyway problem solved. i fixed my head deck and it works perfect. i'm so happy because i think it's better than most available now. good thing this one alpine unit was out of stock at best buy

It's a newbie question because you are soliciting basic opinions about something and you are doing it in the wrong forum. just my 2.

I was looking into Pioneer's 7700MP or Alpine's 9851 or 9853. Anyone have these decks? Any comments?

I just recently bought a new Alpine deck and a new Pioneer deck. My Pioneer is a DEH-P80MP, and I can't remember what my Alpine is, but it was about 50-100 bucks less. I was going to get the 7700MP but they were out of them at the time, so I got upsold.

The Pioneer is "pretty" and has a few more features, but I like the Alpine better. It is the little things that get me. For one thing it has a pause button on the front, whereas it is buried under a menu on the Pioneer. There is also a mute/attenuate button on both, but I would rather pause when I need to talk on the phone, order from a drive thru, talk trash to someone in the next lane etc, and go back to where I was on the song. They both have big up front multifunction dials, but the Alpine has a better tactile feel. Both have good high preamp voltage which was key for my outboard amps, but I think the Alpine has a better output quality. I can't quite be for certain since each of my cars has different accoustics and different speakers (Polks on the Alpine and Alpines on the Pioneer) Plus my Alpine will only raise my antennae when the tuner is on, just like stock. The Pioneer will raise it even when the CD is playing. I hate that. Also, the download feature for the OEL display on Pioneers site is very unintiuitive and unflexible.

In short, if you like flashy displays the Pioneers are great, but for better ergonomics and quality go Alpine. I'll get a pic of my Alpine later.
