To those with MR BOV Flutter.

Are you running an open type intake filter (IE cone filter) or air box? I don't understand why some people have flutter and others don't. It really irritates the living **** out of me when my BoV flutters and I want to find a way to make it stop, if that means putting the stock air box back on, then I will. The stock air box is pretty good anyway, so I don't mind.

Thanks in advance,
Fortunate

I get flutter every once in awhile, but it doesn't bother me. BTW, open filter as well.

Mine car just fluttered for the first time--actually twice today, lifting off at part-throttle, low speed in 6th gear. I'm using a BR filter, but it's the stock valve. Maybe all valves on the Evo flutter a bit, regardless of the intake, but with the open-element filter you can hear it?

I had the stock airbox, fluttered and shuttered all the time, had to take it off and sell it. You can try stock air box and see if it helps (one day when your bored), but the mr valve just doesnt work for some people for some weird reason. If its not a serious flutter, and it doesnt occur often I wouldnt worry to much.

Well I have heard that some people having issues with flutter -- turns out they were getting too much Air for the current ECU settings. Soon as the tuned their AFC II (or whatever they might be using) the problem went away.

Another question would be is how much boost are you running?

Just wondering if you guys installed the bov the "correct" way? This is assuming the jdm MR bov is exactly like the stock bov.

Correct way: The top of the BOV faces the side and intake hose connection points back to firewall. This is according to the service manual

Other way: The top of bov faces up and the intake connection faces towards the radiator.

The recirculating Forge bov I have flutters, it just the way it is. It's installed the way the service manual has the stock depicted. I get no idle problems, but that fluttering in the high end 4th-5th gear boost, when you let off the gas half-way, is always there. Firmer spring, and i guess, it's jsut how it is. But it tells me that the bov is holding boost, nicely. Sound sooo good with the RMR intake I have.

Forward about a week of using the Forge...
I installed the stock bov back to test something out and I actually installed it the "other way". It was holding boost very well and it got louder than it did before. BUT it was starting to flutter like the Forge. I thought the bov was somehow messed up until I realized I installed it differently. So I switched it around and it worked flawlessly. Got quieter and worked normally.

You guys might want to check your install. If the MR bov is exactly like stock, then I doubt it should be fluttering like an aftermarket one. And btw... in case you wonder... I put back the Forge and made sure every hose, piping is securely tight and it runs very well without any idle problems. I kinda like the noise with the RMR intake and it hold boost very well.

Good luck!
