a tune isn't NECESSARY when you get an intake, but to get the most out of it...you should tune. I've had 2 Evos with aftermarket intakes, and no problems. I'm sure that I didn't gain much (if any) performance prior to the tune, but I didn't have any real problems either. I'm not 100% sure how an intake will increase the sound if you're VTA, but it will make the recirc part louder for sure. If you're JUST after sound, and it's THAT important to you, then get a pure VTA BOV and deal with any issues that may come up. Some people I've spoken with haven't had any problems VTA (which I'm amazed by) while others do. Basically, if you do have problems, typically your car will stall from time to time...but you get the bling sound.

By all means, please correct me if I am wrong. But doesn't the BOV help keep the turbo spooled (spining) up? Granted there are two ways to go recirc or VTA.

Thanks to all that have helped!!!!!
And
Those of you that get offended with this mod... well... don't do it to yours.

Yes, and just to be sure I turned it the other way to see if any differance and their was, got real quite really couldn't hear it go off. Turned it back and whooosh... it was back

Just comparing it to my friends VW beatle with 8lbs and a hybrid valve, his seems louder and is at 50/50 , and a honda civic, that can be heard car and a half back with my radio moderate volume. (he has less boost, less compression)

EVO JC: maybe you could send me a pic of how you have yours installed????

Thanks again

You might have installed it incorrectly. I installed it the wrong way the first time, and it was not loud at all, until I flipped it around and the whoosh is loud as hell. I have it venting very little.

That is my setup and it is almost all I can stand and is becoming obnoxious. So if you want loud, whistling, screaming, sometimes annoying sounds coming from under your hood go this route and VTA.

Walmart sells duck-call whistles, I think. You can attach one onto one of the ents of the BOV and be plenty loud... you could also fabricate your own air horn for it... or even a set of normal coach whistles... that'd be really loud. If you really had lots of money, you could vent your current BOV into another BOV into another BOV and so on... then you'd have a whole band under your hood... plenty of ways to get "loud"

From the sound of the posts seems to be the stock air box quiteting the sound.
Not sure if you guys are firmiliar with the GFB Stealth, but it is a fully adjustable BOV. Well looks like I need to look into getting rid of the stock air box....

Thanks again

Run a tube from the VTA port to the drivers seat.

Or----

Install a PA in your car ground the mic wire with the mic attached to the BOV. Turn the PA all the way up and ~BAM~ loud as$ BOV.

^^^

Hope you know I am kidding.

Get a different BOV if the sound is woth that much to you. Try to stay away from the word "Stealth" if you are going for "Obvious".
