They were testing a evo 7 to see how the car would handle without ACD and AYC for the american market....story goes..that the driver could not stay in those "specially designed for the american market seats" as he approached .97g.....it was reported with an extra gear and about another 5bhp and a bit more torque...this would not have happened.....anyhow...mitsubishi where behind on their delivery dates to US dealers so they went ahead and approved the car anyway...........

Yeah, because the US is known for taking safe cars from abroad and making certain they're unsafe in the US. Care to provide any backing info to that story? It seems highly unlikely to me. I doubt I'm the only one.

Damn nhtsa. I'm still not safe enough!

Sounds like British humor to me.... Usually a bit too dry for American tastes....which is why no one gets that you are nnot being serious!

Limey,
Mind you, I'm not actually British myself. But I do appreciate many British things.....Mini's for example!

as for the pic....It looks like a very light collision. Guess that's what a 5mph crash without bumper structure under the bumper cover might look like!

I have owned quite a few mini's inthe past 1275gt, 850 van, clubman...ect..ect...great fun cars but man are they ureliable...(I am of course talking of the proper mini.....not the BMW wannabe!!)....this is where I get flamed ....those bumper bars are coming straight off my Evo when I get it...I am also replacing the rear lights with seven units I got from the UK....If it's a 7....it should look like a 7....and not a evomestupkinen edition...

It'll be interesting to see how easy the bars are to remove. It seems like they are standard in the Evo VIII iterations throughout the world. If they are welded in, will you be cutting them off with a torch? I'm not sure they will be an unboltable piece.

Limey, if you don;t mind me asking....how much did you pay for the Evo VII tail lights. I can't seem to touch a set for under $200USD each!

For what it's worth, My 61 Mini has averaged a broken part for every 75 miles I have driven it! Terrible And the drivers front light flickers! I imported it from South Wales in 2001. It's great fun.

The bars will be easily removed as the same bumpers (or front at least) are retained in all markets....if you look carefully at the front end of the US evo you will see two black bars that appear from both sides that are not there on the J Spec....it would involve removal of the bumper cover...to access the bars

I paid $400.00 for rear lights (for a pair) this includes getting them to the states....they are Mitsubishi parts and not aftermarket crap.

Is your 61 mini a 998cc? is it a cooper (997) or cooper S (1071 or 1275) ? was it easy to import because of it's age?
