AYC on new Evo??

Is the new Evo going to come with the Acitive Yaw Control and the other stability controls it has in Japan?
I've heard many of the systems it uses that allow it to maintain such superior handling are taken away leaving the new evo with a disadvantage...

As always Japan gets all the goodies and we don't so, to answer to your question yes Japan has the Super AYC and here in the US we get a different one called Viscious Coupler.

Nope... i read in Sport Compact Car that the AYC and the ACD were left out because their hydraulic controls occupy the space needed by the U.S. evaporative emmissions system.

Nope, Japan uses the same fuel enlarged tank that the US uses. The only reason the AYC/ACD were left out for the US is because it would surpass the $30K promise that Mitsubishi made to US consumers. In the near future their thinking of offering it as an option.

Yes that is true (or at least that is their excuse), but I'm sure they'll find a way to work around that problem.

I actually wish Mitsubishi did something to surprise us in the last minute. But I have my doubts. We will just have to wait for the next Evolutionary stage.

Sort of reminds me when told us that it's impossible for an evo to pass the U.S. regulation and crash tests

They have very brightest engineers and they say the small canister can't be relocated? Or maybe they feel it's that there isn't enought profit setting it at 30K. Com'on, yen is like 120 to 1. One the STi comes they'll agree with me that it is worth the $.

We in the UK have always had AYC and ACD, but for the VIII they are not to be fitted to UK cars either.

The VC and the AYC are very different things. The ACY can progressivley speed up or slow down the left rear wheel under the control of the ECU. It does this by taking a drive direct off the crow wheel and passing it via a hollow shaft to a set of planetary gears to drive a further two concentric hollow shafts, one driving faster and one driving slower than the actual halfshaft. These two shafts enter a hydralic clutch where they can be locked up to the halfshaft, this tends to speed the wheel up or slow it down. I have an old AYC diff in the garage, if anyone is interested, I'll strip it and take some pictures. (Anyone want an AYC diff ?, it needs new seals and it was squeaking a bit)

This gives the car some rear wheel 'steering' (not quite steering but cant think of a better term) that allows the system to kill understeer without the risk of spinning off.

I think the ACY/ACD are removed to make the car cheaper.

Many rally boys remove the AYC in favor of a simple LSD as they say the road AYC is not fast enough for competition driving. The RS also does not have the AYC, all in all, it seems that the AYC may make the car more stable but probably not much quicker. The VIII will probably be a fantastic car, but I prefer my V.

AYC

Comon you guys should at least make it an option! Not in the fututre, but now. I agree that once the Sti gets here it would be unwise to not have it as an add on.
