Selling STi/Buying EVO ---Theft Issue

I made several posts a while back about selling my STi for an EVO. Well the time has come but I have several questions before I make the plunge.

My biggest reason with selling the STi is the theft in NJ. The rate at which they are stealing Subaru's is amazing and it is just a matter of time before mine is taken. My car is parked in my driveway and I do not have a garage. There have been several STi's in a 10 mile radius of my house stolen in the last 2 weeks. How is the EVO with theft? Does it have an immobilizer? Any info would be greatly appreciated.

Revome the wing, paint the IC black, keep it dirty, and shave it - to begin with. Get a good alarm system, etc...

The stock key has a "chip" in it that is checked for by the ECU. If there is an attempt to start the car by anyother means (i.e. without the key) it won't start. There has been some rumors that a turbo timer can interfear with this function but I don't see how it's possible.

The turbo timer basically bypasses the imobilizer to keep the engine running. I think there is a way to wire the turbo timer so you don't disable it, but you would have to search and find out for sure.

turbo timer will not interfere. It only makes the car think that there is a key still in the ignition. I think that the immobilizer only works at startup.

I live in Metuchen, exactly where are you living that they are stealing Subarus at such a high rate, and how could you surmise that just because everyone elses are being stolen, you'll get yours? Just sounds like a cheap excuse to get a new car. Wait....that sounds like a bad thing..........

Dude, get the Evo! It would seem that the Subarus and Evo's have a market for parts, but I think because the Evo has such an easier platform to modify, nobody is after the stock parts.

The STi on the other hand, well, parts can be taken and fitted to the WRX, so yes, I see your point. Logically they would have a higher demand...good luck with your purchase. As long as you h ave your ducks in a row, go to Bell South Mitsubish, South Amboy. Great people over there. If Jay Cardoso still works there, talk with him about financing and stuff...hes a great guy.

Exactly. Get an Alarm system such as the Viper 791XV with radar. This way you can tell when somebody is even close to your car. Im in a high theft area and nobody touches ma evo.

I have to agree, what makes you think an EVO won't get stolen? ... just sounds like excuse to get another car. May be you should be thinking about moving to a new neighborhood instead .....
