More power yet quiet exhaust
I went thru this quest for the quiet after market as well. I bought and tried a couple of different TBE's.
Here's my words of wisdom on a quiet system:
1) Muffler--For performance, you want a straight thru design muffler without a slip in canister. Straight thru systems can get loud. The muffler and specifically, the amount of baffling will make the difference. The systems that offer a magnaflow style baffled muffler are quiet. Serveral systems claim to be quiet and have hollow canister mufflers--that doesn't add up.
2) Resonators--they do help tune out some of the raspy tones, but don't significantly change the overall volume. I do like the resonators and suggest you go a system that has them.
3) Cat converter--This piece can make a big difference. The smaller race cats make for a noisier exhaust and can trigger CEL's due to lack of power to reduce emissions.
4) Hype--every thread like this has people and vendors that will state "my exhaust is quiet or quieter than this other one". It gets hard to wade thru this BS. Use common sense--the bigger the baffling in the muffler, the quieter it will be. Non of these mufflers have some secret way to cancel noise.
My experiences:
Burshur with a magnflow has a nice sound. It is a good value price wise. Given the low price, you don't get some of the fancy connectors, etc on high price systems. Fitment can be an issue with the Burshur system
RMR-Rhys Millen Racing--A very quiet system with resonantors and magnaflow style muffler.
Ultimate Racing--A very nice system with a magnaflow style muffler. I really like this system.
I have the RMR and swapped the muffler for the largest magnaflow I could fit. It has a very nice sound and is pretty quiet.
Now, all aftermarket muffler systems are going to be louder. You'll notice different type of loud in different conditions. My systems with resonators and a magnaflow is louder at idle(all aftermarket systems tend to be). As quiet as stock at cruise. A little louder than stock under accel.
One last thought--I like the systems that are modular and have flanges that mate to the stock flanges. That's just me, but I like the idea of being able to swap in a stock component if necessary--cat, TBE, DP vs. having to remove the entire system.

Some good posts here.
I know we see this topic over and over, but it's nice to see new/good information still being shared.
Ok, that was my car with the Helix Silencer. I had it out for awhile, but put it back in. Car still feels pretty fast, but it's probably costing more HP with the silenced Helix than the stock exhaust. The silencer is about 1" diamter, lol.
I've also research modding my helix to make it quieter, adding resonator, swapping mufflers. It seems a resonator won't really help volume-wise, I just want it reasonably quiet unless at WOT, so I can drive out of my dead-end street in the morning and late at night without pissing off my neighbors or attracting attn from the police. I already got a ticket in the next town over for "altered exhaust" that I beat in court. Don't want to push my luck though.
I'm due for an inspection sticker, so I'm going to re-install the stock cat and cat-back. If the car feels good, I'll probably sell my Helix dirt cheap, and maybe keep the hf cat.
I wonder how much it would cost to get a quiet muffler and perhaps a resonator welded in? The muffler and resonator are ~$200 or more, + the labor.
Kind of makes me sad to have to pay more on top of the exhaust, but at least I would be able to enjoy more power.
Take care and good luck!

Is the Invidia G200 a quite one? I'm in the same boat. I don't want to hear the car loudly. I just want to get a quieter exhaust that still produces exceptional gains. All I want to hear is the turbo SCREAMING. My friend has a Greddy EVO2 on his, and all you hear is the damn turbo spooling with very little exhaust note. That's how I want it. Which other ones will sound like the Greddy EVO2?
I say Fujitsubo RM-01A. Here's one from Kami Speed:

The RMR exhaust is VERY quiet, the only time you really notice the tone is at low RPM and idle. At speed and WOT it is like stock. I also have the 3" UR high flow cat, I did not notice too much sound difference over the stock cat with the RMR exhuast.
The loudest mod I made was my intake tube and filter which is also RMR. I am removing the intake portion after the MAF (cone filter) and re-installing the factory Air box with the new Works drop-in filter in an attempt to get rid of the overly loud BOV sound.... Quiet is good....
