Off topic: But, what if you buy a *** up stock evo clutch to replace it with your brand new stock clutch, and go the dealer and ask them replace it with a brand new one. That way you will have an extra brand new clutch..... or other stock parts (wastegate turbo, etc) will that work?

It really does depend on how much of an @ss the dealer is. If you get an exhaust that voids your exhaust warranty.... so if your turbo blows up.... it SUPPOSE to still be covered by the warranty unless they can prove that the exhaust is what caused it to blow up. That's what Mitsu told us anyways.... So bottom line...... yep no one has a warranty

what dealer in illinois? mine is max madsen of aurora and they have been completely fair. i had them look at my syncros and they drove around with my mods clearly visable and working. they didn't void it then. the service manger told me i could pretty much put on any bolt on without voiding it. unless ofcourse it is the cause of the problem. he recommended i go to visnu and get a piggyback when i asked about getting a flash or tune. i asked about a fuel pump and he said that is fine. ofcourse if you cam it or break open the engine, your done for, but that is a few thousand down the road.

what ACTUALLY voids your warranty is written in the owner's manual. However, as many have said there's a lot of discretion left up to the service manager of your preferred dealership. I made it a point to talk to the service manager at the dealership I bought my car from and, up-front, got the scoop. Boch Mitsu here in Mass is a mod-friendly place just as long as you don't get carried away.

Other dealerships have been burned with warranty work (they don't make as much money on that work) so the service manager may avoid warranty work by voiding people's warranties if anything seems amiss. Then the valid warranty work has to be fought in order to get done and it's a big pain in the butt.

So other than that just use common sense. The best thing to do is talk with the service manager. If you're up front with them then modding will be a more pleasant experience between you and the dealership rather than the cloak and dagger stuff that goes on.

okay storytime you should get a kick out of this one... So first stearlship I bought my old 03 (within first month of evo's in the USA) didnt mind about alot of mods well not the minor ones such as drop in filter and interior stuff. It wasnt untill I got cams and other major stuff added that im sure they would start to say something, lucky for me I had no problems with my 03. After selling it to my dad and I bought the 05 MR things were peachy, well I bought a drop in filter, yes just a drop in filter. Took my car to the dealership for an oil change (free on the 05's) andthey said they noticed the filter *remember drop in*. A young buck, with fire in his eys that worked on my car said "hope you dont have any problems because I just wrote in to have a new "intake" and that will cause your drive tran and motor warrenty to be voided, Also that is a sure sign you will no doubt be raceing.

Now to make a long story short I will cut to the happy part. I basicly flipped out, I was haveing a bad day and for this cocky little butt head to give me that kind of headache just didnt fly. So I got there GM to please sit down and explain his employee actions to me. *At first he tried giveing me that same ol boring warrenty blah blah blah. I then explained, well I didnt come in here for warrenty work and if I did there is NO WAY a drop in filter could void anything!!! I kept talking to the GM for a bit and he then said he was sorry for the miss understanding. He also said come back anytime blah blah... He also said he would have a talk with his techs..

So every wed night there is kind of a local car show where the people from the area and surrounding areas meet up to talk cars and show off there latest toys or trade war stories etc. To my suprise the young buck that "voided my warrenty" was there in his mustang GT. He talked all kinds of jazz, then was like hey lets line your p.o.s up with my GT and " get-r-spanked" I told him no being he worked for mitsu and I didnt want to deal with his bs later in life. He stormed off got in his Stang and drove off flying threw the parking lot. Wrapped a turn and slid into a light pole smashing his whole passanger side door in!!!!! All I could do is laugh and say karma is a *****!!! -OWNED-

A few months later I was back at mitsu and that kid had been fired for tampering with cars as he worked on them.

I know but its still a funny story that had to deal with warrenty in some way. lol.

cheers

I was told in my dealer that anything thats make the car run faster will void warranty. Then I ask about the turbo timer and they say no!. But unless I see it in black and white I do not trust them....
