Unhappy Help! Why is my oil light coming on?

Hey guys

I have seen a few posts on other message boards but I want some opinions from EVO experts.

I was in town today in my 03 Evo with 4,400 miles. My oil light came on when I came to a stop. If I reved the engine past 1,000 rpms then it would go off. I stopped and checked the oil and it was fine.

Since it was mentioned in other post I will pass on that it was 95 degrees today and I had the air on full.

Should I be worried about this or is it just a bad switch? What should I do to resolve the problem?

thanks

Pete

did you check your oil? 4g63's are known for burning a little oil, especially at low miles.

It could be a problem with oil pressure, not oil level. If your car is stock, you should be able to get it checked out for free under warranty.

Your car is brand new; stock I presume. First place to stop would be the dealership, sounds like a pressure problem. If the light came on and stayed on despite your driving, then I'd go with oil volume (or lack thereof) as the problem.

yep, gotta be the pressure. At low RPM it's not pumping fast enought to raise the pressure. Give it a bit of gas and the pressure increases, and turns the light off.

Check your dipstick, make sure there's enough oil. Drive to dealership and make them check it out..

Also I wouldn't really let this go for too long. Imagine if when sitting down, your heart slowed so much that you'd start seeing spots and such... not good!

I am taking it to the dealer tomorrow AM

The car only has 4,400 miles. Its had 2 oil changes already at the dealer. I hope its nothing major. Since I have only had this car 1 week this is kind of a bummer.

I do hope my first vist to the deal is not like Sterling BMW. Anyone have any experience with Sheehy Mitsubishi in Manassas, VA?

thanks

Pete

Hey guys, I'm getting this same problem. The oil light comes on below 1,000 rpms. Does anyone have first hand experience on what is wrong when it does this? Mine just started to this this on the way home last night.

Probably just a broken oil sender. Had a couple of them on my OZ. If you're under warranty, go take it in. Most dealers with a service bay stock the senders and can replace them in less than an hour.

check oil level, if its ok then you may have a pressure problem, take it to the dealer, or just a faulty sender
