Wow, I'm surprised the air bags never deployed. All that rolling and the nose never hit anything, but the IC is totalled, weird.

I hate to kick someone when they're down, but you should have insisted the passengers buckle up. In some states you are legally obligated to. Two rules in my car, no smoking ever, and buckle up. I once heard a cop say, although I don't know that I believed him, "I've never pulled a dead body out of a seat belt."

As for all these folks telling you what your friend "should" do or what you "should" do to him, ignore them. That's a personal matter on one side, and a legal one on the other.

The nose was hit as you can tell the saftey beam was bent up. I believe this is something my insurance will be handling with mitsubishi, it has been noted to my insurance.

From as much as I can remember they were both buckled up. The passenger in the back seat had removed his seatbelt a minute before the accident to lay down in the back seat. I'm not sure when the front passenger removed his.

Wow I dont know how our cars have such low rating when I have read so many of these major accidents and them actually holding up a lot better than expected and everyone walking away. Any how sorry about your loss you'll get another and you'll be happy. As for your friends like sam said its your deal no one else can tell you other wise good luck bud

Hopefully you can get the insurance to buy you a EVO 9. That would be GREAT wouldn't it.

I didn't mess with getting the gauge pods out. THe dual pod I had gotten made by Audio18 was broken by the jerks who ripped out my radio. The CF gauge pod didn't look like it was in the best shape. I really didn't care to look at it. With my next evo I think I'll be using the CH Gauge panel and get the radio relocate kit.

It is very strange that the airbags didn't go off. I went to mitsu today to see if I could get some info on a 05 MR and also some evo 9 info since I'm considering one or the other and I asked about the airbags. The lady said they should have gone off, then after calling her service rep who did service on my car (which should of included the 27 point inspection ex. AIRBAGS), he was saying it all depends on the wreck. I told the guy "so even going end over end isn't enough to pop my bags?" What a fool. I told them my insurance will be investigating the airbags and will be taking it up with Mitsu. After looking at their show room evo, my sensors were missing and messed up and I"m very suprised my bags didn't go off.

Here is the deal with airbags.
First, there is normall somewhere around 3 sensors on the car. It takes 2 of the three to actuall set off the bags. One is normally inside the car.
Second, airbag design dictates that the only go off within a 30 degree range from the centerline of the vehicle. Front impact only.
It takes a considerable about of straight on force to actually activate a sensor.

If you went end over end then it is not front impact. You hit the front end front either the bottom side or topside but not straight on. I know a considerable amount about airbag system design and function and I can tell you right now that them not going off is not an issue and the system performed as designed IMO.
