Euro Mag claims the E8 has 307 HP!!
I didnt know if this has been posted already, but this Euro mag says the Evo 8 has 307 HP. I hope thats not only for the JDM and Euro Spec Evo 8s if its true. Well heres the link: http://www.xtreme-uk.net/200303-Evo-EvoVIII-026.pdf
Yeah these numbers are going to be for JDM and Euro spec Evo 8s. In the article under spec sheet, max power is 276hp and torque is 290, those are the specs of the JDM and Euro versions. So our Evo isn't going to be what's claimed to be about 307hp.
So we lost 36hp probably from the ecu pulling ignition timing and emission tunning.
also probably went conservative since they know people will try to put 87 octance gas with their turbo charged car? Remember folks don't go cheap on the gas if your interested in a turbocharged car. I hope in the near future they will bring us the RalliArt ECU to get over 340hp with exhaust.

They have they Ralliart ECU and the ralliart exhaust for the Evo VII at Japanparts.com. Dont know if theyll fit the Evo VIII though. They probably will fit though.
There is a good reason to underate the Evolution in the States. There is a federal mandate that prevents "production cars" from having more than 136 hp per cylinder on piston engines. More than that, and it requires different regulations, and makes the car about impossible to insure. Mitsu has been adamant that the car will have "271 hp, no more no less", correct? But, this doesn't explain the zero to sixty times that are anywhere from 4.8-5.1 seconds, while the STi is claiming 300 hp and a time of 5.1 that is regarded as "highly optimistic".
Also, this explains why the STi will have a 2.5L (which is not allowed in the WRC which limits turbo cars to 2.0L), so that it may claim 300 hp, and say that it has more hp than the Evo. Chances are that crank HP on the Evo exceeds 310-315 hp. We will be the exact same as the Euro/Japenese spec vehicles, other than the absence of AYC.
I've been curious why things like the hollowcam, and the exhaust system have been garnering less hp than previous Evos, and this is the explanation.

Great theory.....your dreamin though.....FQ300 evo vII has verified
307hp at the crank......far more power than standard....thats why ralliart can charge more....because it has additional power over stock.......US evo 315hp...what are you smokin?

There is no limit to HP like there is in the Japanese "Gentleman's Agreement", but, there is a federal mandate that limits HP per liter on "production vehicles." Otherwise, it is classified as a different vehicle type (can't remember the term, perhaps "competition" or something), and has different needs. For instance, I'm pretty sure things like roll cages, or multi-point (>3) seatbelts, and various other restrictions that would drive up cost, and as previously said, create even more strain on insuring such a vehicle.
