top speed arguement

remember that indicated speed on the speedometer means nothing. It's calibrated for a certian tire diameter (which will change with inflation and wear) and only really accurate upto about 100mph. I know many speedometers tend to be optimistic (read high) by a couple of %.

Someone needs to go make a deal with the cops and borrow their laser/radar gun to check. Speedometers are kinda inaccurate at those speeds, especially if you have different rims and tires.
edit: dam, you beat me to it.
I use my GPS to monitor my speed too. I get up around 75 on the speedometer, and it shows 72 on my GPS. (locked onto 7 or 8 satellites with NMEA 2.0 or above) I have different rims and tires than I did stock. As I go faster, the speedometer is more and more off.

Have you tested this theory of roasting tires at or near top speed? There is barely enough HP to fight the drag let along loose traction unless your lifting off the ground due to bad Aero. No our cars are nothing like Top fuel dragsters besides that they have 4 wheels and an engine.
