top speed arguement
Ive Hit 175 mph plus just alittle so id say around 180 with no problem stock ecu with 245/40/17 tires.... I probly could have gone a little more but i started comming up to traffic....
the salt flat top speed cars claim to have wheel spin at or around top speed. the reason being is that the drag is so great, and the cars have so much horse power that in order to increase top speed they decrease downforce and thus the tires are not pressed into the ground (and with gobs of HP they spin). of course this is at speeds much higher then an evo will ever go. so no, an evo will never be able to spin its wheels at top speed, it has downforce which keeps the tires firmly planted where they will never spin going 180mph. now if you put some airplane wings attached to your doors....
wowowowowowow go there
ok so i used to own a vw golf 1.8t and i had oz superleggeras on it. so i sold them to this kid who lives in CT and has a vw r32. sweet car. so anyway this kid is crazy. so anyone here ever see a r32 do over 170mph? well i have. go to ctdubs.com and go to videos. there is a r32 on there that does it with ease, and i believe its the kid that bought my wheels. there is also a crazy drift video that he made. u can see pics of my old wheels in the gallery. his name is chris and he is an awesome kid. go there and be amazed

There is no way he went 191mph or whatever with stock gearing.
[QUOTE=JasonS][QUOTE=HMSevo8]I agree. But, to chime in, I've done top speed pulls at VIR and got certified about 181, 182,
181 at VIR?!
Back straight?
Yeah, riiiiight......
What were you in, the Audi R8?
If you're talking about the Virginia International Raceway in Danville, Va, you were dreaming.
If you're talking about something else, you have my sincere apologies. If you are indeed talking about VIR, and you're in an Evo, you're dreaming.
No, not on the back straight...back straight at VIR, maybe 130, 133. Don't really look at the speedo. I am saying they have a place right near there (not sure if its part of the VIR compound of tracks or not) that does top speed pulls. Just straight. Not on the track. I have no idea how one would ever hit that on the back straight at VIR. Its what, like, 2800 feet? Then into the rollercoaster? haha. I would love to see a car at 180 take that. Didn't type what I meant correctly. My B.

I stated a member of this forum went through the research to find out what had to be done from stock to go 200mph. I remember reading TRE had a lower final drive gear ring and pinion set to do it but his acceleration #'s would be oviously miserable without retarded amounts of power. I don' t recall reading if he actually installed the gear set and went for it. Search: Astro evo/ final drive/ 200mph/ TRE... If you care... I really don't.

Glad you clarified that. Are wsc cars hit 180's there and that's with an easy 1,100lbs lighter w/660hp. We also race Lola Indy lights that run in the 175mph range.
Just to show how aero effects a cars top speed(an Evo is a brick) from min. downforce to max on the Lola is 9 mph difference.
HMSevo8= ? My best guess= Her Majestys Ship.

The diffuser actually helped at high speeds, and it was done with a make-shift underbody aero piece to block off the "parachute" effect of the obnoxiously designed rear bumper. Wheel horse, as I dynoed it t Pruven without the alky kit, which was used for this run, was 328 whp. So with more ponies, it can go faster, I think. I think 191 is hard to hit, IMO.
JasonS, you hit VIR often? I'll PM you next time I'm down. Not a lot of people seriously track the cars. If you do, how have you found the reliability? I know, I know, everyone rags on it, but if its builts well, and driven right, its not too bad, but I find things breaking that completely shouldn't. I dunno, my opinion.
If the Evo's top speed at 7K rpm is 157 mph as magazines say, but the rev limiter doesn't kick in till 7,600 like my stock ECU does, well obviously the car's REAL top speed with a stock ECU is
157 mph / 7000 rpm = X mph / 7600 rpm,
so you just do ( 157 mph * 7600 rpm / 7000 rpm ) and get a real top speed of 170.46 mph.
If you have your rev limiter raised to 7800 with a flash, then that calculation would be 174.94 mph. If you happen to run an 8K rpm rev limiter, 179.43 mph is your top speed. This is all assuming stock tire diameters and enough power to get you to top speed.
Also, in order to run 191 mph with stock gearing, that would be
157 mph / 7000 rpm = 191 mph / X rpm,
so ( 191 mph * 7000 rpm / 157 mph ) is 8,515.92 rpm. That's not inconceivable with lots of mods. Hell a stock S2000 spins to 9K rpm.
I just remembered, I think I read somewhere that Al's Evo is spinning to 10K rpm. That would give it a theoretical top speed of 224.29mph. I have a feeling that would be drag limited to a much lower number though.
Also, to run 200mph with stock gearing you would have to be spinning at 8917.20 rpm...not uncommon.
