two very different cars.. the evo cant touch the supra on the highway.. but its superior everywhere else. If you want to be somewhere in between you should go after a used z06

Heres some things to consider. You do live in Clevleand, you'd get to drive the Evo all year around, there reasonably fast, responds well to mods. Downside on the Evo. They basically look and feel like a cheap rental car inside. Your 30 grand you spend will be worth 20 grand in a couple of years and proably 5 to 10 grand in 10 yrs. Buy a Supra and your 30 grand will be worth at least that in 2yrs, 5 yrs , 10yrs, and who knows,, maybe 50grand down the line. If you take your time you can find an unmodded one that some old dude has and hasnt been beat on. And even if they have been beat on, we all know that they're quite reliable and can take quite a pounding. Obviously on the Evo forums your going to get a biased opinion, but make your own decision.

supra, theres no question about it. supras turn heads, supras r almost 14 yrs old (first one debuted 92, the mkiv) and still to this day does not look dated, it will holds its value and responds to mods better than evos. u don't c motors like this, inline 6 twin turbo and will be able to hold substatial amout of boost stock. sry bout ur lancer, i forseen it and tried to tell ya to go a diff route haha. but a supra. the car is wide, loud and scarey. 190mph stock top end.

Supra, you would be buying a classic. I don't really see alot of them either whereas the Z06 and our blessed evos are becoming pretty common. Don't get me wrong I love the Evo, it performs great and responds well to mods, but I say get a supra while you can. In a few years it is going to be even harder to find one with low miles and fewer mods. Plus I think they are definitely going to increase in value over the years. Just my opinion.

I couldnt buy a Supra because I couldnt get a loan for one (25k+). Getting a new car loan was no problem though so thats why I have the EVO... and dont get me wrong, I absolutely LOVE my EVO to death but the only car Id trade it for in that price range is a Supra.
That seems like what will happen with me, i'm going to have to take out a 20k loan so getting it on a new evo would be a whole lot easier than trying to get it on an old supra.

I have a question to that some of you may have answers for, others of you might have never taken it into consideration but, how many of you bought the evo over other cars becuase it had a trunk, and backseats, and how many of you bought the evo regaurdless of those things, becuase the car handles well and has power, and room for upgrades, basically a great sport / tuner car to own and drive? maybe i'll start another thread with a poll about that as i think it would be interesting to see the results of that.

For me the biggest thing about high hp car's including Single supra's was wheelspin. I hated it with my previous mustangs...a little write up would be great.
The Supra is overall a great touring sports car. It is a little on the heavy side but not really compared to AWD cars like ours. Over the vehicle’s development period, Toyota, stung by criticism that the 7M-GTE was too heavy, conducted 956 meetings for the sole purpose of lightening the MKIV Supra.

If set up properly it can be a total monster in any arena, wether it be road racing, drag racing, highway roll-ons.. what ever floats your boat it can be good at.

My Supra was not really built for what I ended up wanting to do with it. It started out as a street car and by the time I got into road racing I had invested too much $$ into the Supra, I could not thrash on it like I wanted.

Anyhoot, about the car.

Overall build quality and stamina is amazing. The doors shut just right, no rattles, very solid car.

Interior is one of the nicest I have ever experienced. The cockpit 'wraps' around the driver.. all your instrumentation is point directly at you with a big sunk in Tach right infront of you... nice, small 6 speed shifter. the interior actually reminded me of a fighter jet. Efficient and tasteful design, no chrome or other over-design crap. The Supra seats could use some help though as I never thought they bolstered you down very well.

Engine, 2JZ-GTE, what else can you say?
I daily drove my Supra at around 1.5-1.7 bar for 2 years, NEVER had a problem. I am talking spinning tires in 4th gear kinda power too. 600rwhp on stock block is simply NO problem, not even on higher mileage engines (given a good tune & proper supporting mods).

Stock Supra brakes are very adequate for daily driving, infact they were extremely good for their time. I upgraded my brakes before I could really test the stock ones so my insight here is fairly limited. I do remember the stock brakes working very well with SS brake lines and upgraded pads.

As far as wheelspin goes.. well, it is kinda like a metaphor for what happens to most Supra's.. they get 'over modded' (ha, I cant believe I said that!).... Guys over build their cars, pumping out stupid HP and have no idea what to do with it. Big nasty lag with tremendous wheels spin. Cars end up sitting in the owners garage, being handicapped by its own greatness.

I remember my car not being near the HP of some of my buddies and I easily spun through 4th gear at 110mph on the Nevada freeways.
It is fun though to race motorcycles, atleast it used to be untill the Supra became 'famous' and everyone knew about it.

It is a beautiful car IMO, I might get flamed for saying this but it almost looks like the 550 maranello was designed a little bit after the Supra.. the lines are fairly similar somehow. There are a couple of other cars that I forgot that IMO mimics the lines from the Supra.

Supra is one of my dream weekend cars. The mileage that will be on the car when you get it makes it not worth buying for a daily driver. Get a new Evo, you will be happy with it, I still am.

Before I purchased my evo I was in the same boat as you. I chose the evo between the supra because overall the evo is a much better car. Yes, the supra might be able to make more power with its bigger engine and rwd, but thats for mainly drag racing. Also, when I drove the supra, it didn't handle anywhere near as well as the evo did. When I drove the evo, I had much fun cornering and turning corners hard with no problem and it still has great power with it too! Plus, you can get a brand new evo for the same price as a used supra, but the supra will most likely have over 100,000 miles on the car and will need to be maintained more often.

Ive been in a supra, lets just say the interior isnt any better than an Evo. In fact its worse.

oh and I might ad my take on the Supra: Its a piece of Japanese history. An incredibly awsome, powerful, and overal greatly respected monster of a machine. Given the price, mileage, and the 'used' factor... the Supra is something you get as a 2nd car. If its between the Supra and the Evo then my advice is get the Evo. Then in a few years if you have the cash, get yourself a Supra. I know I will....

I dont know about 800rwhp 'daily driven' stock bottom end reliability... but yeah, if you make 800whp, typically you will be 'faster' than a stock r1, maybe quicker if you can hook up.

I remember a long time ago, I raced a Buell (on a race track, wink).. roll on... I knew I was running pig rich cause after I passed him my car shot out a 20ft flame, atleast that is what he frantically told me after we pulled over lol... that Supra was a fast car.

MitsubishZ - I cant believe you dont like the Supra interior.. was the one you saw all thrashed up or something? Everyone I know loves the Supra Interior.
