Cams Decision
I'd consider the Tomei Procams because of their higher lift. Wouldn't you know it, there's a groupbuy: https://www.evolutionm.net/forums/sh...d.php?t=147238

If its been proven then someone must have taken a car making exactly xxx whp with gsc 264/264 and then put HKS 264/264 cams in with same tune and the car made less whp?? If this test has been done please show me and I will stand corrected.

Less friction on pistons going up and down usually makes a significant difference but i dont think its going to make a noticeable difference of how easy the camshaft spins (IN THIS DEGREE) if the hks cam lobes were jagged maybe, but they are pretty damn smooth.
PLus GSC doesnt make 280's or at least not yet so If you want max power HKS 280's seem to be the way to go. Other then a horrible idle those 280's are making the numbers.

264/264 is good for someone who is on the stock turbo and needs a good idle
264/272 is good for stock turbo but someone wanting alot of power but while still attempting to retain a decent idle.
272/264 just seems weird and a waste of time in my opinion, but some like this
272/272 is for alot of power on stock turbo and someone who doesnt care about idle
272/280 hasnt been tested yet but probably would be a good idea to retain somewhat of an idle
280/272 again hasnt been tested and prob is just a waste of time, but i'm sure someone will do it one day and swear its the best combo
280/280 looking for maximum power, ideal for a larger turbo such as gt35R, but not necessary. buschur made around 15 more whp with these over the 272's. Most people with 280's dont complain of loss of low end power, seems only people complaining of it are people who dont have them. I havent seen one person with 280's say "I HATE THEM, NO LOW END POWER"

i dont mean to highjack the thread but im finding everyones input interesting and i had a quesiton of my own. what would the difference between a 272/264 vs a 264/272 be like? does anyone do it that way

the GSC 272's are awesome cams. no difference between the hks 272's other than the name. speaking for the 272's in general, these cams are badass and will make you tons of upper rpm power. i just got my cams installed and my car tuned the other week and made a baseline pull of 290whp after the install. after mark at turbotrix tuned my car i made 340whp. here are some numbers for you. the car idles lopey at times yeah, but thats only really when the car hasnt warmed up yet. when the car warms up, it idles just fine. regardless of the idle, the ride and the power of the cams while driving is ridiculous, its as smooth as it ever was, just with a sh*tload more pull.

I have HKS 280's on my car with the stock turbo. With AEM...the idle issues are minimal. i mean VERY MINIMAL. you would have to really listen to the car for a few minutes to actually figure out it has cams. I'm not saying it idle's like stock but i am saying...the idle does not suck..if anything it just sounds a little meaner.
anyone who knocks 280's is only doing it cause they don't have them.......
and i'm not knocking other cams or cam combo's...i'm only speaking for what i have and my experience.

I've been in a car with a dynoflash and 280s, idles the same as a car with 272s... never been in one with 264s but someday I plan on getting 264/272 buddyclubs as soon as I have the money to get them and have them installed.

Most of that is correct but the best combo for street driving is the 272/264 combo since the stock setup runs a higher intake and exhaust duration it would make sense, stock duration are 238/234. The 272/264 makes alot more low end torque than the 264/272 both pull about the same #'s up top with mods. And I dont recommend 280's on a stock turbo either.

How were your 280's before you got your aem? I'm not knocking 280's I'm just saying its not worth it on a daily driver unless you have a big turbo and ems.
