CEL causes trip odometer reset?
CEL causes trip odometer reset?
I may be just imagining things but my car has thrown the P0420 CEL code twice and each time it does it seems like it resets my trip odometer back to zero.
I'm hoping this is imaginary because if it's not it seems as though this is the ECU's way of recording codes and calculating how long the owner lets it stay on without getting it checked and cleared by a Mitsu garage.
Has anyone else seen this or something similar cause it seems sneaky if it really does this? Agree?

this is the trip odometer and not the mileage odometer
Yep never heard of it before as well. Could be a bad cluster or EMC noise effecting it.

It doesn't record the value it HAD...it resests it and can then start counting mileage until the ECU clears the code. Could be useful to a Mitsu dealer to see how well someone is taking care of their car. And with Mitsu's rep with regards to warranty work...well, anything they could use against us, they will.
And as far as the tinfoil hat...buy an Evo BEFORE you make comments about how cars made in THIS millenium work and what the ECU is capable of recording and how it does it.
