well, i have plans of transfering my system to the evo from my car now, and lightening the evo up enough so it weighs the same or less than factory spec with the subs in. however, ive noticed that the trunk on my stealth rattles, and seems not to be as stable since i put in the system a year ago. will this loosen up the evo as far as rigidity? or will it loosen up the trunk any? if it does, im ganna rethink putting the system in an sell it all and buy more go-fast parts.
I would assume the bass and all the vibrations would be equivalant to puting tens of thousands of miles on a car.. So you would probably vibrate things loose over time.. However I don't think you'd be able to remove enough weight to compensate for heavy subs, amps, a box, caps and other components.. I think you need to consider what you want most out of your car.. To be stylin and sounding nice.. or go fast.. Don't get me wrong, you can get both.. But its gonna cost ya. Keep in mind mitsubishi spent alot of time designing the EVO, also to make it lighter and perform well.. I doubt you'll be able to improve on it much without sacrificing something somewhere. I did see a site that had Carbon Fiber Door panels.. Personally I find that look ugly.. but that could be used to save weight, along with removing all of the insulation and sound deadening material, which is probably the source of most of the weight difference between the JDM and USDM models (Besides the ACD and AYC components) But I think removing the sound insulation defeats the purpose of what your doing.. More creaks and rattles will be heard.. and only get worse over time. Do what makes you happy.. Just keep in mind everything is a compromise.
It would have to be one hell of a system to effect the chassis. We're talking about a welded steel piece here. You're not going to effect that with your system. Now all the interior panels and fasteners that are back there may start to loosen up and rattle, but that has no effect on the chassis rigidity. Now the added weight may throw off the chassis balance.
I'm sure there's a lot of weight to loose if you want. JDM bumper beams, lighter wheels, lightweight battery, loose the cats, titanium exhaust, ditch the jack and spare pick up some fixaflat, etc, etc.

The most I would ever put in a car is a single 10" sub. I like my music to be clear, and the bass to be tight. 10" generally perform much better than 12 or 15", plus they weight a lot less.
I too will put realy nice speakers in, and that will be more than enough for me. I don't care if anyone else can hear my music.
I found some Kendwood speakers that weigh about 10% of normal speakers though, so I will be able to install high quality and save over 1 lb of magnet weight per pair.

I assume you mean the Kenwood Dual Mags. Very nice speakers, great mids and highs, but definitely need a sub to carry the bass. I have my system set up like tearitup said (except w/o the Kenwoods)... One 10 is more than enough, and nice speakers all the way around.
