on paper the STi is faster, but on the track I beat my friend's STi just by a few tenths, both are stock

It would be a close race. I owned a 2004 STi with a stage I cobb accessport reflash and I now own a 2005 MR. My STI had way more torque and low end power than my stock MR, though my MR handles much better. I do agree that the 4g63 is easier to modify as the STI motor tends to get boost creep problems with modifications and that the same mods will result in more HP on the 4G63 than the 2.5 L STI motor. I have no doubt that if you were to take 2 heavily modded cars, one evo and one STI that the evo would win. However, stock to stock or stage i to stage 1 with minimal mods it would be very close as you have to remember that the STI motor is 2.5 L vis the 2.0 liter 4G63. I do know that a stage 2 cobb STI (stage 2 reflash with turboback) would likely beat my stock MR on a quarter mile as I have ridden and driven one and the torque is crazy. Having owned both I still prefer my stock evo MR, but have enormous respect still for the STI. Anybody who doesn't, hasn't owned one.

The MR is good for 13.0-13.2 stock at 105, with a reflash only that MR will run 12.7@107..I do like the STi, but I do think the 05 evo is slightly quicker in all performance aspects except for low end torque..But as we all know it will be a drivers race 90% of the time.

I have yet to find an sti that can even come close to me on any kind of track. This was back with the stage 1+ car.
I also want to note im still on stock intake the stocker owns all aftermarket hinders our cars performance. Here is a hint, you slap an intake on an sti it hurst more than it does an evo.

Hmm, lets see... The evo really shines with DP no Cat TBE, boost controller, and a Super afc. Oh Also A K&N drop filter.=STI NO CHANCE. But If you dont have those you will be in for some trouble. Out the whole the STI will rape you, And if the guy can drive Forget about it.

I was talking to a guy who owned a STI yesterday in New Mexico. He said that him and his friend (who owns a 04 evo) have raced many times and that the EVO is a bit slower 0-60 but after that he said the evo would catch up and pull away. he said that he had beat the EVO a few times but the EVO was quicker if both drivers drove perfectly.

Both of the cars were stock

This isn't for a specific race, just want to know if I have to fear lightly modified STi's. BTW, the car is an 03, not 05. If lightly modded evos and stis are about the same, why do STi's get the bad rap whiel the Evo is "mod friendly". I guess I want to know more about the enemy.
