Hell no, not with those Yoko's on the car! My god, that'd be suicide!!

I can't afford the blizzak purchase right now. So if it's snowing outside, the car stays inside.

My Evo isn't seeing any snow and not because of the tires. It's all the damn salt and gravel I'm afraid of...

I was just going to post how nice the timing is of this evo arriving at the end of winter for those of us in the snowy areas of the country.

It will give us a full season to wear out the Yoko's and im thinking a good all season tire will work for me after that, I dont need to be taking 85mph corners in town.
Any ideas on a all season sport tire that will work?
Thanks and mine should be in Friday or tuesday

AWD, 4WD, 1000WD -- it doesn't matter. If you use hi-performance tires in the winter, it's gonna be bad news...

Read my quote from another thread:

...but the compound in hi-po tires isn't engineered to be driven in cold weather. It's not so much the tread depth that matters, but the number and size of the tread blocks is what counts. And on a winter tire, the more sipes you have in the tread blocks, the better traction you will have in snow and ice. Winter tire compounds are engineered to be pliable in cold weather and to "bite" into the snow, which is what the sipes are for. Hi-po tires with larger tread blocks will "skate" over snow and ice because there's nothing in the tread design to bite into the snow, plus the soft silica compound becomes very hard in cold weather, and hence offers far less traction then a winter or even an A/S tire.

The above paragraph isn't sales hype, either. It's serious stuff. Auto manufacturers throw A/S tires on most of their cars because they know 95% of the driving population won't bother with dedicated summer & winter tires. OTOH, a good dealer (salesman) will stress that if the car they're selling comes with hi-po tires, then you will definitely need a separate set of winter tires. They aren't expensive, either, and you get the best of both worlds as far as traction goes... in all seasons, and without the compromises of an A/S tire.

Don't do it, man...

At least get a set of summer tires such as S-03's, BFG, Dunlop SP9000, or Pilot Sports... They'll last much longer than 10k miles.

Then get a cheap set of winter wheels with good snow tires.

If you get A/S tires on a car like the Evo, you won't be able to come close to getting any real enjoyment out of the handling capabilties.

235/45R17 tires at Tirerack.com:

I'd get Sumitomo HTR+. $106 each.

If you have money and want the best, Michelin Pilot Sport A/S. $205 each.
