"We" didn't determine what level of risk is okay and what isn't, the government did that and put up the speed limit signs, rather we like it or not that's just how it is. He didn't speed for a joy ride or racing others, his cause sounds reasonable to us but going almost 3x the limit is still just breaking the law. The cop pulled him over 'cause it's his job, rather the cop choose to sympathize with the cause or not is up to him, but by not issuing a ticket the cop will be breaking the law too, there is no need to call the cop a dick because of that. So get a lawyer, get some paperworks from the hospital, take some online courses, do some community service if necessary, and try to get off with a lighter sentence.

Get a lawyer and hope for the best.

You screwed up, now it's time to pay. A lawyer might cost you just as much, but save you some problems.

I think in NJ if you go over double the speed limit you can loose your license. As for the Cop being a dick, good thing you realized you were wrong. He was actually quite nice if you drove your car off. Definetely lawyer up.

can everybody on here say they have never sped in their evo, honestly? A 25mph zone isnt the best choice, but speeding is speeding, both are illegal. Give the guy a break.

OK, is everyone done being dix?

Yes/No?

OK the guy was going fast. It happens. Like no one here has ever gone over the speed limit in their EVO. If you haven't go trade it in for a Kia Rio for your slow as$.

Get a lawyer. No one cares about the situation you were in at the time. Not me, not the cop, and especially not the judge. So, keep that to your self. A lawyer will be able to try and leverage a deal and/or reduce the pain. Do not do jail time. Pay the fine on time (yes there will be a fine), bring about $1,200.00 with you to court. If you live near me bring change for the parking meter too. Yeh it sucks getting a parking ticket while you are in court. Points... who cares about points. They might make your insurance go up, but pay it and be happy. If they take your license get a hardship and you can still go to work and the store or what ever you HAVE to do to live.

No more joy rides or 1/4 neighborhood runs!

If you want to play like that you will have to pay when you get caught. It is that simple. Don't try and whine your way out of it. Oh, good luck.

P.S.
I've been in a similar situation on the freeway 50+ over the limit (down a big hill and my brakes gave out....j/k). I showed up and the DA took my ticket talked to me a little (which I was honest with him) and he wrote a note on my ticket and told me to go to the cashier and pay a fine ($300) and it would be taken off my record (never happened). Lesson learned be honest, don't be a punk-be respectful, and good things can happen.

Sorry man but I have to call BS as I'm sure the cop did too.

It sounds like you're trying to say this car and your hazardous driving style has and still is getting you in trouble. It also sounds as though you made up that story to try and cover your butt. Luckily nobody including yourself was hurt. As others have said take your lumps. Definitely get an attorney as they should be able to get it reduced and take a Defensive driving course.

Even if the shrimp story is true the judge doesn't want to hear about it and if he thinks you're lieing he will only be harder on you. Tell him under the circumstances you know you were driving well beyond what was needed and just apologize. Good luck and I hope he takes it easy on you. 70 in a 25 is prettty rediculous bro even if your passenger was having a reaction to shrimp.

some of you guys are ridiculous with this going fast. It's a car. Any car can go fast. It's like a placebo effect here. oh great handling car with good power...gotta go fast. Then these same people come on here asking for help cause they were going 158 mph or 90mph over on the highway . Just grow up and drive maturely. People say i drive like a grandma cause i am not always getting on it. So what? who cares? When i want to get on her i will (on ramps, acceralating).

man my evo does almost 70 in second gear so yeah it really isnt all that fast comparing to what he could have been driving, anyways bro get a lawyer and if your court date is not for another month be pro-active go to a defensive driving class and show them the papers from it, when your in court. Also if this is your 1st ticket then youll be straight not all that bad but if you have previous moving violations they will be a lot harsher on you, so get a lawyer..and good luck

Not be be a jerk, but if I was a cop I would be a dick to you too. Going 71 in a 25 zone, that is just plain irresponsible. You are luck you did not get arrested. Going 50 in a 25 zone is fast already....

Hopefully by reading everyone's replys, you sell the car the never drive again. There's a reason the speed limit is at 25...you're lucky you didn't kill someone. I would've arrested your dumb *** and impounded the car.

LOL, if you're as dumb as you so sound, I'd make sure to hire a lawyer!

Obviously, a court date has been set. Do I need a lawyer?
I have been receiving so much mail from lawyers who wants my money. Many lawyers have mentioned that I can get as much penalty as: license suspension, jail time, hefty fine, community service, etc.

I looked up the code 39:4-98, which translates to about 5 points on my license.
Has anyone on this board have any experience with this situation? Would a lawyer really help me out or just take my money? Should I just do with the on site prosecutor/lawyer when I go to my court date? Is going to jail better than suspending your license?

Let me know what your thoughts/advice. I would appreciate any knowledge/tools I can use to lessen my penalty.

Thanks!

Marco
Well bro I don't know what to say. Going that fast on a 25, you are lucky that you didn't go to jail that night/day. All I got to say is just admit to it, cause if you don't then its only going to get worst. Most on the time if you claim you were guilty the judge lowers the fine but going 71 bro, good luck at least aim for traffic school.
