Even if you were rushing your bro to the hospital...why 75 in a 25? I mean... It's not logical. I mean, good luck with the court and all. But I think if I were in the sitation I might go 40 tops. Esp. in a car that attracts that much attention.

In this country everyone is entitled to legal defense. No exceptions. The system breaks down if you start saying, "well that crime was really bad, so he shouldn't even get a lawyer, or even get a trial."

If you use the hospital story in court you are going to get laughed at. If it was serious enough for you to go 50mph over the limit they are going to question why you didn't call a damned ambulance.

BMan, you're just as BIG an idiot as botemarc due to the fact that you say it is ok to speed anywhere and anytime you want just because you have a fast car. It's because of numbskulls like you two that the laws are becoming more restrictive towards enthusiasts like the rest of us who drive responsibly. We take our cars to racetracks to have fun and test our abilities. We don't put ourselves and others in dangerous situations, I think the majority of the members on this site will agree with me.

Obviously, a court date has been set. Do I need a lawyer?
I have been receiving so much mail from lawyers who wants my money. Many lawyers have mentioned that I can get as much penalty as: license suspension, jail time, hefty fine, community service, etc.

I looked up the code 39:4-98, which translates to about 5 points on my license.
Has anyone on this board have any experience with this situation? Would a lawyer really help me out or just take my money? Should I just do with the on site prosecutor/lawyer when I go to my court date? Is going to jail better than suspending your license?

Let me know what your thoughts/advice. I would appreciate any knowledge/tools I can use to lessen my penalty.

Thanks!

Marco
You better get a lawyer and still pray every night. i just hope that you were not in a resident area with little kids running around because if you were get your **** ready for a few days in county depending if the judge and the d.a. are nice.

And try to use prayer for judgement or faulty equipemtn if you haven't used those in the past for other offenses

Basically, get a lawyer, go to court, get yelled at by the judge, get it reduced a little, pay the ticket, pay insurance, learn your lesson, tell others of the lesson you learned, move on with life.

Get a lawyer. No one cares about the situation you were in at the time. Not me, not the cop, and especially not the judge. So, keep that to your self. A lawyer will be able to try and leverage a deal and/or reduce the pain. Do not do jail time. Pay the fine on time (yes there will be a fine), bring about $1,200.00 with you to court. If you live near me bring change for the parking meter too. Yeh it sucks getting a parking ticket while you are in court. Points... who cares about points. They might make your insurance go up, but pay it and be happy. If they take your license get a hardship and you can still go to work and the store or what ever you HAVE to do to live.

No more joy rides or 1/4 neighborhood runs!

If you want to play like that you will have to pay when you get caught. It is that simple. Don't try and whine your way out of it. Oh, good luck.

P.S.
I've been in a similar situation on the freeway 50+ over the limit (down a big hill and my brakes gave out....j/k). I showed up and the DA took my ticket talked to me a little (which I was honest with him) and he wrote a note on my ticket and told me to go to the cashier and pay a fine ($300) and it would be taken off my record (never happened). Lesson learned be honest, don't be a punk-be respectful, and good things can happen.
ditto
