The stock tires are dry summer performance tires. I would not want to dry to drive in Chicago snow with them. I have a beater though.

well my first winter in the evo was on stock advans, snow and all. but i noticed that they hardened and offered noticeably less grip at <45 degrees F. for this winter i'm buying blizzak ws50 though, but i'll prolly wait till late november early december to swap them on.

I didn't change mine last year, so needless to say, I drove very very slow.

Sweet Jebus, are you guys seriously driving with Advans in snow?!? No wonder you have so high insurance rates. I use studded Nokians from late october to late march.

I don't worry about the tires in the winter here..I just drive my old Jeep Wrangler, and park the evo in the garage. If you can, buy a winter beater..Hell you can usually get one for the same price as a set of good winter tires! -Gabe

I usually change to the winter tires around thanksgiving depending on the weather. And change back to summer tires around Easter. You guys are crazy for driving on the Advans in the snow. I got caught once last year in the snow and they were terrible.

I decided to buy a set of Rota Torques so I can change back and forth as I want to. If there is a warm week in the middle of Feb, I can run my summer tires and then switch back to snow tires as soon as it gets cold. The wheels run around $700 but it's nice being able to switch whenever I want.

well, usually most of the snow gets cleaned in NJ, but i still had to deal with about 1-2 inches (2-5cm for u) of it, so i was babying gas and brake pedals. i think most accidents in evos happen when it's dry or raining, because that's when everyone drives fast. in the snow they know that they should go real slow on stockers. i wish we were allowed to drive on studded tires here, but it's illegal on public roads (many of which here r already crappy and bumpy as is).
