dealership oil change

I took my 05 mr in for my free maintenance. They put 5w30s oil in. I thought the evo required 10w30? Also does the s mean synthetic? I just checked the oil and its gray/black I put like 15 miles on it. whats up?

well, its not gonna hurt if uv only driven ur car for 15 miles...i doubt it would be black by then... most likely they didnt change it at all...i guess our cars require thick oils because of the turbo ...i remember my old turbo rsx burnt up 5w-30 synthetic pretty bad i had to upgrade to 10w-30...

5w30 is for colder climates, I think. It works fine, as long as it's synthetic Mobil1. I think s stands for synthetic.

look at the oil cap. it clearly says 5w-30. the dealership will only put in what is recommended from mitsu. as far as the s, dont know but ive chatted w/two others about the free oil change and both said they put in non-synthetic oil? confused, i thought if they can read what weight oil to put in, why cant they read MOBIL-ONE SYNTHETIC??? i plan to get my first free cahnge soon and i plan to make SURE they put in MOBIL-ONE!!!

yeah ul have easier startups with thinner oil... problem is that it might burn up faster than 10w-30

the only difference in 5w30 and 10w30 is it is 5 weight thinner at start up then 30 weight at running temps so it is not thinner at cold start. i use to run 15 50 in my supercharged vr6 gti

thats funny because my oil cap clearly says. mobil1 (see owners manual for specs) and in the owners manual it says 10w-30 i have a 05 if it matters.

I took my 03 for it's first oil change at 1000 miles back in March of 2003 and the dealer here in NY used non-synthetic. I made them empty it out, flush it with two quarts of synthetic and then put in the right oil. Just to cover myself for any reason in the future, I made them document everything. They are easy to not want to warranty something and although this wouldn't do much to the car, I still wanted them to take responsability.

Please show me where it says 5w30 on my cap? I just thought the evo's came with mobil 1 10w30 from the factory and I would like to be consistent.

maybe our 05's have different oil caps. mine looks just like yours. also my manual also says 10w-30. stick to what the manual says.

You don't HAVE to run Mobil1 if you don't want to. I do in my car, but you really don't have to. Ford is going to start recommending BP gas I think to put on all their gas caps. Same type of thing...they can reccommend a certain brand but you can put anything in as long as its a good synthetic and it wont hurt the car. Most of the "oil recommendations" are really just indirect advertising and money exchanging hands. The 4G63 is plenty capable of delivering max performance on many good synthetics.
