Yeah, the seems par for the course. I am planning on bringing my own Mobil 1 for my changes did that with my last 2 cars, M3 and 98 Type R. I hate to even think how much the dealerships are charging for the oil.

I switch to 5/30 in the winter here in Ohio and swap it out for 10/30 until it doesn't freeze at night anymore, which we're talking about by mid-march here.
It flows easier, and I do park my car outside.

As pertaining to what the manual says...I have an 03, and the cap is just like the picture. In the manual, it says use 10/30 but it mentioned 5/30 could also be used in colder climates. So the Evo bible says 5/30 is good if you do decide to go thinner

The cheapest place to change your oil is Walmart. They charge something like $8 labor.

During the winter/spring I hate doing it outside in the cold myself, so I bring my Mobile1 (cheap to buy at the store), filter, and crusher ring to Walmart and "supervise" them to change the oil. You literally need to hold their hands in the process b/c the Walmart manual says our car takes an insane amount of 5.3 Quarts...which we all know is wrong, we only need about 4.75 Quarts....that's the only caution you need to tell the Walmart guy, that and making sure he knows how to put in the crusher ring correctly.

So I usually tell them to fill 4.5 Q in and return my remaining amount. I drive, cool down, and check my level, and add to appropriate level...
