exhaust question

is there a big difference in power gains when it come on choosing an exhaust brand..like choosing megan over turbo xs or hks over greddy..i figured they jus pretty much have different sounds that would be the only major difference..the reason i ask is i was thinkin bout gettin the megan racing ti exhaust on lancer shop but wasnt sure.its 380 compared to an hks hi power at 520.if the power isnt different i dont see why not going with the megan racing, or any other brand besides greddy and hks.or maybe even turbo xs, authority, or megan racing since the price isnt up the a$$..

fit is mostly important. look for fitment issue at this forum. Helix catback has fitment isssue. and most of downpipes don't fit 05.

i just bought the turbo back system from megan and it looks great and well put together. the only thing that was odd is that inside the cat delete is a small preforated muffler reduction other than that it looks great and is 3 inch all the way back.

THat's because they gave you a resonated test pipe, right? That's even better than a regular test pipe, because it's far less noisy.

Okay . First off, No It doesn't matter which brand of pipes you purchase. I use the word pipes because thats all they are. There is only a couple factors that make an exhaust perform better than others.

for instance Buschur and Helix are a true 3 inch TBE they dont have neckdowns nor taper anywhere. whereas HKS is a 2.75 and contains neckdowns.

If you got the cash go with APS 3.5' inch , but be warned it's loud .

Megan is an excellent product as far as exhaust is concern pm Zeus on these boards for tech specs and pricing.

now someone mentioned fitment issues on here. Helix version 1 downpipes rattle and aswell as the catback from version 1 melts the edge of the bumper, this problem has been fixed.

Your best bet would be to contact lancershop and ask them some questions regarding the specifics of the pipes. IE diameter of the exhaust , neckdowns, etc. I would then PM ZEUS and ask him the specifics on the Megan exhaust. PM if you need more info.

It also depends on the material that is used to make the pipes. The HKS non-30th anniversary Hi-power has mild steel piping with a stainless steel muffler , mild steel will rust, as opposed to an exhaust that is all stainless which will not rust for a very, very, very long tine. When getting an exhaust check for clearances and for bends and bottlenecking. Avoid getting something with a lot of bends

I think it is stupid to pay close to a grand for a ti exhaust. I can't imagine that a greedy exhaust is worth the extra 400 or 500 dollars. all a exhaust is, is a piece of pipe with a muffler. if you spend the extra money you are just paying for the name. that is just my two cents.

agreed. But this only applies to certain areas. IE, here in SoCal I haven't really heard of a Rust epidemic but in other regions where it snows and salt is used I can see it.

also agree to a point. People obsessed with performance thru light weight ( Lotus) will go to extreme lengths to give them selves not only a power advantage but a weight advantage . All things being equal ( which they never are ) two equally equiped cars with equal drivers the lighter of the 2 will have a certain advantage. weight reduction adds up ( or down ) removing the spare and jack , bumper supports , lighter wheels , lighter 2 piece Buschur rotors , coupled with some other techniques and you can shave quite abit with that Ti exhaust.

I personally Don't care but thats only my thought. He may be a lightweight wierdo.
