Using the Handbrake
Using the Handbrake
So i found this dirt road last nite near where i live and i kind of did some "offroad rallying" since its our cars heritage, to take the corners i kept on using the handbrake so i could slide through easily... but i did it for a while wondering if it could possibly hurt the car if used for a long duration of time..
Anyone know if doing so would hurt my car in anyway?
Plus, anyone know a good methods on how use the handbrake in such situations??
Thnks..

If you have an 03 or 04 it is not good for the center differentials viscouse coupling unit, but if you have an 05 the active center differential de-couples the front and rear wheels from each other when the hand brake is pulled.

I have been wondering about this for a LONG time.
Where do you people find this stuff out? Other than this forum and trial and error I haven't been able to find a definitive source for things like this.

I believe it is in the owners manual. Lots of good info in there.

I got through about a third of it when I bought the car, then I got side tracked and didn't pick it up again. Perhaps I'll re-open it again soon.

Mine is a '05, so i guess it didnt hurt the cars ACD... sorry, but could you explain more about the release of the front and rear wheels when i use the handbrake? What exactly happens? i mean so the rear wheels lock, and the front ones are just left rolling?
i was using it in "gravel" mode so i could get a better rear slide...
I was actually planning on disconnecting the release button so i could use it with better ease, but dont know about it now....
thanks,
Jason..
