to hear it, you will need a cone filter. I suggest the Injen since it comes with a hardpipe as well.

ok for those who say drop in is all u need, what is your reasoning for this. if the stock intake was soooooo good do u think most evo owners would keep the stock plastic thing. go with an aftermarket intake. u will be glad u did, just stay away from the k and n typhoon for the evo because i have herd it is hard to tune. trust me u will love the open air intake a lot more than just the stock box. i ahve gone that drop in route b4 with other cars and its by far not worth it.

Drop-in filter, because a lot of tuners have come you and said the stock air box is not restrictive .... plus an aftermarket intake has a greater chance of messing up your MAF readings and the minor gains over a drop-in aren't worth the effort in tuning ...

RMR or cone if you want to hear it or drop in if you want to look stock, as long as you dont change the piping you will be ok. The piping will require tuning and its not worth the cost or minimal gains.

Yes, the RMR has a plate adapter for the MAF. As for gains a few hp, but you can hear the turbo on DV much better.

ok usually i try to look at it this way what am i trying to accomplish with the filter mod i want to get colder air to the engine but putting an open filter just like that taking away the stock box just leaves it vunerable to alot of heat thats trapped under the hood so some kind of shielding is required u can use the open filter just make sure its receiving a good supply of cold air thats why alot of people dont like putting open filters and prefer swapping just the filter which is a good and safe idea but there are filters outhere that have good shielding and are well protected agains heat from the engine but the downfall is that they might b a bit expenssive personally im looking into buying the ARC box

I have the HKS RS with no tune. It runs the same but now i can hear the stock BOV pretty loud making the WOOSH sound. Once you get the flash it will make the HP difference.
