20G Fever!

I have been getting questions for months now from my customers about the so called "20G turbo" from Buschur. What do I think of it? Have i tuned it yet? Etc.

Up ill last week I had NOT run accross any of the 20G equipeed cars

I think part of this has been David's extra careful and long testing process before releasing the 20G - the other may have been confusion in the market place - who knows - but now I have sampled the 20G and I am here to tell you guys its one bad *** unit

Last week I drove David's white RS with the 20G and a whole lot of other stuff like a EMS etc. That car hauled *** holding nearly 30 psi right through the power band. I did not think that those kind of results would trasnfer to a "normal" customer car.

Last night, I tuned my first 20 G equiped car with normal mods

3" exhuast
272 cams
walbro furl pump
Hallman MBC
AEM intake
Dual stage V2 Dyno Flash custom tune

The results were shocking.

The car holds 20 psi all the way to red line and it pulls HARD. My estimate is about 360 - 380 whp on pump gas with 20 psi.

With the dual stage flash we are able to run two maps on the stock ecu - one for pump gas and the other for race gas on the same ecu.

Turning up the boost to 26 - (falling to 23 at red line) - the car became a total animal. Full 26 psi was reached at exactly 4200 rpms, this is compared to 3700 rpms to reach 20 psi on the stock turbo - (A s slight loss in spool up speed compared to stock)

The car is way faster than any stock turbo equiped car I have tested

This is not a "mild" change that is "slight" like the so called "White Rabbit" tuebo which is a marginal improvement over stock

The 20g you will feel immediately and its an animal

The only draw back is slight compressor surge at about 6 psi as the turbo starts to spool up

I am very familiar with this surge sound from my Suabru tuning as there are many similar 20G bolt on turbos for the STI which all exhibit the same compressor surge as they spool up

People who are buying this unit must be aware of the slight compressor surge

Also - extreme car MUST be taken with tuning as the low end tq is so extreme with these units that stock pistons may split in two if you have knock going on

Conservative tuning is key with turbos that make so much low end grunt

I look forward to tuning some 20G's on the dyno

It's a safe bet that this is running David's "upgraded actuator"...

Sounds good

The 20g's were always underestimated back of the days of the DSM. It's a great oldschool turbo.

Al, when did your dual stage map become available? And how much would it be for a custom tuned customer to upgrade to it?
