Question Turbo Timer for EVO 8

Anyone know of a turbo timer for our EVO8? I'm considering the usual (Blitz, HKS, Greddy). I don't want to hear "it's not made for the evo, but it should be a direct replacement."
Any recommended shops in Texas?

Any of those timers work, you just gotta make sure they make a EVO specific harness kit for it or you'll be splicing wire.

Thanks, but that thread really doesn't answer my question. I want to know if anyone heard or possibly even installed a timer from one of the big 3 companies. That one reply stating they had one installed was from Sri Lanka. I'm curious about the timer and harness for the US Evo 8.

I installed a Blitz in my Galant with a harness. Its a breeze. Until we see a wiring diagram, it will be hard to tell if the Evo 7 harness would fit.
If we do get a harness, you can drive your break-in miles over here to Katy and I will help you install it for free.

TearitUp, sounds like a plan. I definitely want to head to H-town anyways. LOT MORE car shops then here in SA, especially in the Westheimer area. I think I saw a couple of EVO owners from Houston as well. I'll let you know as soon as I find one.

No prob. I will be a Houston area Evo owner next week.

To expand on the turbo timer though, does anyone know of a turbo timer that has no extra features? I only want a TT, and dont need a speed gauge, or boost gauge, etc.

I believe the Greddy one is just a turbo timer and nothing else. It's very simple and it's only like $85 - $90. Comes in different colors.

My turbo timer will be built into the alarm system, meaning it is a feature that is part of the alarm system itself. it will run for 2 min after i shut off the engine.

Are you getting an Alpine alarm system?

Is this a good choice? http://nextcollection.com/html/ORD-A...-1767-none.cfm I like it because it's simple and from the looks of the box it can light up in red or blue, I'd go for red of course. Anyway what about this one?

Sorry I have to bump this, this is a serious topic to me and I would like some insite, I've never owned a turbo car before so I don't know what brand/style/type is worth it's weight.

Why waste your money on a turbo timer? It's not necessary if you take care of the car, i.e. drive slowly with no boost the last portion of your trip and let it idle for a short time when you stop. No blipping of the gas before shutdown. All modern turbos are water cooled and do not suffer from the "coking" problem that earlier ones did. Besides with all of the warranty violation scares being posted, why chance a fight with Mitsubishi on an unecessary item?

My $.02 Worth + 111,000 miles on my timerless Eagle Talon Tsi AWD + 93,000 on my old MX-6 and 85,000 on my Saab 9-3.

Exactly. Use a good synthetic oil and you will never have a problem.

Not be be overly picky but most Garrett/Turbonetic turbos are oil cooled only. The GT series turbos are watercooled but overall I agree with you. People have run stock turbos hard for 100k miles on dino oil and have never had issues that turbo timer supporters talk about. So many people waster they money getting stupid stuff like aftermarket BOVs, EGT gauges, and A/F gauges. Use the 100 bucks to go towards a SAFC or save your pennies and get one of the many wideband kits out there.

Super Air Fuel Controler. It helps lean or make your car rich if needed, I don't see the need for one now, but I do need a turbo timer, it's personal preferance, if it voids the warentey I won't get one but if not I will.
