What could this mean? Lancer cancelled?
What could this mean? Lancer cancelled?
Here is an article I found from Chrysler site:
"According to Automotive News, the new Lancer, which was to be adapted by Chrysler to replace the Neon, is going to be discontinued in the US, even though it was just introduced. The reason - increased safety standards. Instead, Chrysler has been given the lead on developing a new small car platform, which will form the basis of the next-generation Neon, Lancer/Mirage, and, now, the Eclipse as well (which will move from the Galant platform, which also is being led by Chrysler). Great news for Chrysler fans - not so good for Mitsubishi fans, who at least can keep the Pajero, Challenger, and Montero (since Jeep will not share with anyone except Mercedes). "
There is a ton of talk on other auto boards that the Lancer is soon to be cancelled and there won't be an Evo.
There was also another guy that said he talked to a guy that was driving a Mitsubishi Evo test car....the guy was driving it around the US to different dealers. The guy that saw it talked to him and he was told that it was planned to be released in the summer around June!
And there is also even more talk that the US will indeed get a version of the GT-A with an available automatic and the small GT-A wing to appeal to more buyers
Rumors Rumors....I wish Mitsubishi would OFFICIALLY announce something SOON!

if my memory serves me right, i think it was the neon they are going to discontinue, and yes because of safety standards not the lancer. why waste all those ads for a car you're going to d/c? and yes they are going to use the galant platform for all their vehicles.
FOCK!!! they better not discontinue it.. NEON is focking ugly.. IM MAD
if they do this.. that is the most WORSE decision ever.. i never liked how chrysler cars looked like.. ergggg..
this better stay man..

They aren't gonna discontinue anything. sigh some of you ******* dis appoint me. You think about it for a moment. If Mitsu discontinues Lancer, you think It'll just sit their and bring back the mirage?
Neon is one of dodge's best selling car, way more than cavalier (I know its not from dodge, jeez). Lancer just isn't doing well. Frankly its ugly, given the choice between lancer and protege, I'd go protege. I mean seriously, either you have to be drunk and really dorky to go for the Lancer.
Now Evo 7 on the other hand, I am obsessed with, heck I'm going down to the DMV monday and registering "EVO VII" and sticking them onto my car, although not an evo. SO good night to you, nothing is getting discontinued besides your common sense.

I saw a small article in the local paper about the neon and the lancer sharing something like 65% of their parts in 2005. Looks like it'll be one car with 2 outer skins and two different names. One for Mitsu and one for Dodge.
well neon to me is ***ING UGLY... and yeah..
but its true that daimlerchrysler and mitsubishi is gonna share some platforms like the galant/eclipse and maybe i guess lancer..
i read it in AUTONEWS.com but it doesnt say anything of the lancer being discontinued...
i think the lancer looks nice in person perspective.. while someone else is driving it..
neon can just die

Hehehe, if you haven't realised yet, DaimlerChrysler is a German company. So the Americans don't own everything. In Europe there's an abundance of car companies, with Fiat and VW being the biggest. Not to mention Japan...
hey! daimlerchrysler is half american! thats what they told us during the "merger"!!
volvo, jaguar, aston martin, land rover, opel, saab and vauxhall are the only euro car companies owned by american interests. so there's lots of independant euro companies left, right? independant euros include vw, which owns lots of european nameplates, fiat, which GM has a stake in, but does not control and renault, which controls nissan. i own commas though, so pay me money when you use them, or face the wrath of my attorneys.

German my ***, DailmerChrysler is a 50/50 corporation. Benz does not own Dodge. Its a merger, one big happy company. Mitsu is really not owned by DOdge, just a little part of it, enough to give its opinion in the matters. Basically the only real influence Chrysler has had on Mitsu is only in the US market.
BMW...well, it is an original company, but its part of other companies too, like TVR, Mini etc. Like Volvo is part of Ford. Opel...er GM. Peugeot...Citroen, but its a french only company, it seems. Now on the other hand, Renault OWNS Nissan from what I hear. Serves em right, I never liked nissan anyway, out pos of bluebird sucked major ***. The Galant was the best car ever!

yeah, daimlerchrysler is 50/50. thats why the majority of the chrysler executives were removed and replaced with germans. thats why jeep, chrysler's holy brand, is sharing with mercedes. keep dreaming, buddy.
and dodge is just a nameplate, not a company.
BMW is not a part of those other companies, its the company that bought the others. big difference there.
chrysler had a 15% share of mitsu for years so they shared platforms, technology and the like, but daimlerchrysler now owns a controlling interest. mitsu is pretty much running their own show, but they have to share everything and DC can put the clamps down whenever they want.
like i said, renault controls nissan and got the house back in order. renault makes economic decisions but all design and engineering is in-house at nissan.
every company has made a POS but Nissan gave us all the Z's so they kick ***.
