Then don't make it sound like you're talking about stockers, BUSTER.

what do u think? i think he is bull shi ting me.... is there something big difference between v8 and 4cyl turbo engine?
i know inorder to get into 10sec in 1/4mi u need to have at least 600whp on evo....but u need alot less whp on v8 muscle car???
No way.. I have a 78 malibu putting out about 600rwhp, the car has seen 10's with pretty tame gearing.. He would need at least 600whp to get 9's.. Alot of it is gearing, so you can hit 10's with a low trap speed on that horsepower.. But probably not 9's at that weight..

If you go to www.aktivematrix.com there's a quarter mile / hp calculator on the homepage.. you can put in his ET and trap speed and see approximately how much power his car should make.

Let me add something though.. There's more to getting a good ET than horsepower... Power to weight, aerodynamics, traction, gearing, engine redline, etc.. I only added my opinion based on the weight of his car because its similar to the weight of my car..

Either he's actually doing the times, or he's not.. but he may not be telling the whole story about the ouput of the engine, or the weight of the car, or the times..

Copied it right off the calculator...

Trap Speed Method: approx. 634 HP
ET Method: approx. 754 HP

(Trap speed @130, ET is 9.9)

a 9.9@137.7mph on a 3700# car..

Trap Speed Method: approx. 754 HP
ET Method: approx. 754 HP

Those are the theoretic optimum numbers....

I don't mean to hijack, but could you send some pics of the '78 Malibu? I'm thinking about purchasing one as a project. Also, what is the weight of one of these cars?

Thanks.
