these are from older threads but it can sum things up for you. if you search you'll find lots of conflicting threads, and some real answers.

The center diff has a fixed ratio gearing, which is 50/50.
The ACD mode varies the diff's lock state duration and locking power only. In the entrance of a turn, the diff change from open to lock to provide lateral stability. In the middle of the turn, the diff opens to induce turnning. In the exit of the turn, ACD locks the diff again to provide maxium exit stability.

Tarmac: the ACD stay lock for short duration
Gravel: the ACD stay lock for medium duration
Snow: the ACD stay lock for long duration, lowest locking power.

How ACD works:

When you turn the wheel in Tarmac mod-The ACD opens instantly
When you turn the wheel in Gravel mod-The ACD takes 2 to 3 seconds to open
When you turn the wheel in Snow mod-The ACD takes 4-5 seconds to open

yo, person who posted this comment whoever it was, dont get special tires. stick to stock bro youll be fine save that money for a mod to go faster. i ran stock tires in 4-5 of fresh wet snow on tha road about 50 miles in tha middle of wyomnig. your fine just try and stay outta tha turbo range, and drive pretty slow. and if you start to slide pull your handbrake to direct you into tha direction you want to go incase your nose turned for tha worse. late

WTF LOL. The stock tires are ***summer/dry use only*** Most people will suggest against using them in cold/wet/snow

No doubt. "You are fine on the stock tires in snow.. just don't try to brake/turn/accelerate"

i live in the same area as justchil, and what's worse is i am lowered. i used stock tires all season last winter, and had no problems what so ever. if the roads get real bad, i take it easy until i find a open parking lot or nice wide stretch of road to have some fun on!

What about chains in the mountains of Montana during winter on top of a brand new set of Blizaks? Still over kill? I think i'll bring a set with me just in case.
