if you want to be the first around your block get a 9. if you want to know that your car has proven performance get the 8.

before i get flamed, im not saying the 9 is bad. im just saying the mitec hasnt proved it self reliable yet. but tha'ts just my .02

This is not quite true. He should say that 'the mitec hasnt proved it self reliable yet IN THE USA'. But let's consider that the evo is around since 92/93 with the evo1 but only introduced to the USA when? Does that mean all previous models did not prove themselves too? Also consider that the Skyline was called the Japanese secret weapon some years ago and was a big surprize to the USA drivers. How long has the Skyline been available in the usa?

Mitsu has a proven track record with evo performance. You can trust them. If you can afford it ... choose the IX. (Personally, I won't buy another new car as it loses abt 20% when you drive it out of the dealer's but buying used evo is tricky, so beware)

As for price, I hope others can help ya.

now, that's just my opinion.

I can't believe no one corrected sirloin1219..... it's MIVEC, not MITEC .

FYI, When Ford introduced the 6.0 Powerstroke, it had problems for the 1st year, while the 7.3 Powerstroke remains the same proven engine. It took 1-1 1/2 years for them to work out all the little bugs in the 6.0. I own a highly modified 7.3 w/ over 206,000 mi's on it, w/ zero problems (430 WHP & 789 TRQ !) and I don't baby it either.
I decided that the 2900.00 w/out the 2000.00 free gas wasn't worth it , so I bought an 05 two weeks ago, but that's just my perspective. I'm extremely happy with it!!!!!

If you can afford it, I say go with the IX. I just traded in my 03 EVO for a IX and I'm very happy with it. To me it's a bit more refined overall. The power delivery is smoother, the seats are more comfortable, and the ride isn't as harsh. I won't discuss cosmetics since that is subjective. Hope this helps.

Everyone is concerned with the MIVEC head. Don't worry, mitsu won't put it on if it would hurt the EVO!!! It's just going to take a little time for tuners to tune it and the aftermarket companies for example HKS to come out with a cam or cams. Other than that it's still the same as far as performance goes. So go with the IX!!!!!!

So you're saying the Evo 8 has little to gain from the Ecutek reflash? I would have to concur as Nick's Evo's from PD have proven.
I don't see why people with 8's are having this certain uneasiness. Of course the 9 is going to be superior in certain ways. But given sometime 8 owners can just swap in a 9 turbo and if possible a Mivec head.

the 9 has already been flashed, dynoed big numbers and post good 1/4 mile times. I would say the 9 is another great evolution (and evolution means a thing has evolved, 99% of the time its for the better.
