Rotate Tires?

The other day an Audi salesman told me that none of their cars require tire rotation because of quattro...

Is this true? And if so why do other AWD cars require tire rotation?

That doesn't make sense to me. I mean your front wheels, no matter what vehicle or what the drivetrain, wear more than your rear. At least that's what I've noticed.

Sure they do. As long as you're not taking corners at 120mph all the time. I mean a burnout is rare for us so it isn't like we spin tires every day. 12K miles and my tires look great.

Yes, they will last even less miles if you don't rotate them front-to-rear (and back).

Quattro has magical tire healing properties

=/. Front will wear on any AWD car more than the rear if power is equally distributed, but like on BMWs, i think its like 60% rear 40% front, so they'd be a lot closer wear. The quattros might not have to be rotated for a while longer than evos that might be possible, but never is wrong.

i don't see how that is possible on the quattros because no matter what your front tires are always gonna wear more because they are the ones that turn... rotate every 5,000 on any AWD vehicle..

When my dad bought his X5, they told him not to rotate the tires.

Probably because they want to do it for him. I just don't see how you wouldn't need to rotate them. Everyone knows the front wears out quicker than the back.

they may not "require" it, but rotating tires is ALWAYS a good idea to prolong the life of them. Be glad we don't have staggered size front to rear with a directional tread, the only way to rotate those is to break them down and swap sides.

I can see where quattro "might" promote more even tire wear vs. two wheel drive cars, but the Audi salesman is wrong in his rationale.

The owners manual on my nissan Safari says that for 4WDs, I need to rotate tires, not for 2wd models. So, I guess tire wear and rotation has something to do with 4wd/Awd and others. But whats so special with quattro??

Doesn't make sense unless they are different sizes front to rear.
