Update on EVO products

Hey I just called some major aftermarket products companies to get the run down on production with EVO parts. Heres the list...

Apexi: I asked about their GT Spec exhaust and Downpipe and they said they have no idea if it fits or when it will be available, but to check back soon.

HKS: They were very helpful and told me the exhaust systems for the Evo VII WILL FIT the Evo VIII, BUT tyhe back is a tiny bit short, but does not cause the bumper to melt from what they can see. They also said the downpipe for the Evo VII WILL FIT the Evo VIII perfectly. They also told me that they are in production in Japan for a Evo VIII exhaust system and should be available this month.

Vivid Racing: They are in the process of revamping their website right now and have several products available. They DO have a cat back exhaust for the Evo VIII available now and have dynoed it with a 13 whp gain. Pics should be available on their site soon. Keep checking back... www.vividracing.com

RMR: They told me that they have an intake ready NOW to be ordered for $115. So far, this is the only intake I have heard of being released for the Evo VIII so far. I could be wrong though. They said they should have full dyno results for ALL of their products soon. Thay also said that a hard pipe kit and ECU will be available soon. Most likely the hard pipe kit first because they want to be positive they dont mess up an ECU kit .

Hope this helps people. Thanks.

Dave Buschur posted this on his website yesterday. Adds to the aftermarket parts list plus a few more of Dave's impressions of the EVO.

"The new car has just 155 miles on it. I pulled it in the shop today and tore the exhaust off of it.

I have the complete 2.5 and 3" prototype systems built for the car.

We tried two different mufflers on the car today to test for sound. Right now of the four guys that listened to it we are leaning to the Ultraflow just like we use on the DSM's, they just sound sweet on the 4G63 engine.

The factory exhaust is a pressbent system that measures around 2-3/8". It has a horrible downpipe with no flex section, a really nice large cat., two resonators after that, then the tubing turns 90 degrees into the stock muffler, the car comes with a 4" tip from the factory.

We have offroad pipes ready to ship. Those are always quick, no bending required.

The downpipes will be offered in 2.5" and 3" mandrel bent stainless. The 2.5" downpipe will sell for $200 and the 3" for $300. The offroad pipes will sell for $50. The highflow cat, I would love to just make money selling one but being as I am an honest guy I just can't. That stock cat is the nicest I have ever seen. So if you are going to run a 2.5" system with a cat I say keep the stock one. If you are goin to go 3" upgrade to the highflow unit for $150. The cat backs are going to sell for $375 for the 2.5" and $500 for the 3". Both will have the 4" polished tip on them.

I will be dyno'ing the car on Monday to see what gains we got from the prototype parts. Right after we will have pictures and then they will be shipped to the bender to have them copied so I can start shipping them.

The 02 housing looks to be a place for improvement. It is SMALL. It is also going to be impossible to port. It has a very large lip that sticks out past the end of it for the factory gasket. This is going to keep you from being able to open it up. Stainless steel is coming for that piece.

The intercooler plumbing will be coming also. It runs very close to the downpipe and is longer than need be on both the inlet and outlet."

Going to be fun!

TODA has a 2.3 liter stroker kit, lightweight flywheel, cam gears, metal headgasket, and coilovers. I ordered the cam gear today.

wow 2.3 liter that seems really big, i would of thought 2.2 would be the biggest you would want to go, i know the jun kit for the 7 was a 2.2, it would be cool if you did before and after dynos of the stroker kit so we could see what kinda power it put out.

Last i checked Vivid was selling EVO7 exhausts not EVO8...

So it will bolt up, but be a little too short.. So you might melt your bumper or possible discolor it..

Nothing for an EVO7 is going to be carb legal..

But in about 6months to a year i suspect you will have products avaliable that are carb certified.

Yeah sorry I dont know if any of those products will be carb legal. And yeah i know an exhaust coming up short is bad... It happened with my skunk2 cat back on my civic and melted the bumper to the point where we could actually smell it. Not good
