I've run with and without the wing at the track same day 5 minutes apart. The wind doesn't slow you down. I only hit 108 in the 1/4 but the MPH where the same with and without the wing.

That being said the big wing does look rice and does attract a TON of negative attension.

Anyone happen to know the weight of the standard carbon fiber EVO8 wing? Especially since the discussion is partially about weight reduction.....

a/c was an option on the rs in 03 it's been standard since I believe...definitely standard on the IXs

wing does not make you slower

improves stability at speeds above 105-110 I believe

like someone mentions an undertray air deflector type thing will do the same as the wing...like the jdm evo IX rear bumper the air delectors provide the same thing as the wing

unless you drive a lot of new cars and have always had abs...you would be weirded out by not having it BUT not having it is more of a real drivers advantage...you can mash the brakes and control it where as WITH abs the car shimmys the brakes to keep control

anyone who has never NOT USED abs should find a car/truck without it and see what it is like...it's more real driver(aka three pedals) friendly definitely a better thing for road racing and what not

that's my 2 cents

I think it also attracts more attention from haters wanting to vadalize. The wingless evo is so stealth.

The weight of the wing is next to nothing. At low speeds (about 65 or less IMO), the wing is good for nothing but making people want to race you.

The wing has always been proven to greatly increase highspeed stability. at 100mph, it provides around 70 pounds of downforce, keeping the car feeling solid. I wouldn't run without it.

How did you take the wing off? Did you have to swap out the trunk?

I'm getting an EVO 8 this week... and I'm considering getting rid of the wing to attract less attention (fewer people trying to race me... fewer people wanting to steal my car... less attention from the police).

The wing simply unbolts. Just have to find something to fill the holes in your trunk w/out the wing...

would it make sence to get the 10.5lb cf trunk and mount the wing on it. so will have stablity for track time. or thats a wasit. i kind of would rather have a little more wight on back end and have stock look of the out side of car. so i think i will keep it stock.

wingless Evo owners claims better gas mileage, the wing adds drag...significant to 2 to 3 mpg.

JDM IX bumper is not a full undertray diffuser...it's only on the tip so it's a lot less functional than a full undertray.

The RS has AC and _all_ Evo VIIIs have an aluminum hood.

There was no RS for US 03 models.

Amen.

I'm not sure I agree with you on that one. Stopping from 100+ is quite difficult without ABS. Ask davidbuschur.
